A satisfying 3 hr 15 min concert, a surprise main item (dEvi pAvanE) and an RTP appropriate for Independence day. The pallavi was a composition of Mridangist K. Arun Prakash and had the rAga name cleverly incorporated in it.
A different version of the popular rAmanukku mannan was a pleasant surprise. The shrI rAga kriti was sung with the 'devotion' it deserved. The kriti was well received by the audience.
Vittal Rangan was a revelation!! the youthful NCB and veteran KVG took the elevated the concert with their sensitive accompaniment
CM has everything in it for layman and connoisseur, devout as well as an atheist.
This concert had a bhava laden, certainly very classical and devotional enrakku siva kripai preceding a secular pallavi. Another classic example of how CM with 'secular' lyrics can still be CM! the pallavi and the jOnpuri and khamAs pieces were all on India (not any deity), still has been and will be enjoyed by one and all.
What is the need to sing on a particular deity to attract a certain community into CM. On one hand, the same people say there is no religion, I enjoy the music and the sahitya is incidental--- if that be the case, why do not people who want to be initiated in CM be like them... with existing compositions can they not be attracted to.
This concert and the one by Dr. Sowmya with the pallavi on 'mazhai' are enough to show the entire canvas of CM to the world.

3 hours and 15 mins .Secular , Religious ,non secular , if there is anything called pseudo secular , cm is first a function of concert duration .Thank you for your review ArunSri. Nice spread of composers with a great young brigade team, even KVG has become a veteran for you.
