A tale of two Amrthas (@ MFAC)

Post by sureshvv »

Two brilliant concerts on back to back days, both with widely different ethos & aesthetics. But it is abundantly clear that the Carnatc baton is now theirs to take it where they feel best.

Thanks for sharing
Did both of them have equal timeslot?
AM list seems too long and AMV is a comparatively v short list
Although that is not at all yardstick to see who is better
I am big fan of
AMV

intense blissful

In art, one classical, other romantic
Sweet voices both, one serene,
Other brimming with energy...

Both musicians came up together about the same time around 2 decades ago and have grown and now belong to the top grade of artistes today. In this journey, both have passed the cusp when their art has transformed from something that is presented to something being shared. I am sure Naada Inbam SVK is mighty proud of both and blessing them.

Random observations
-------------------
1. Neraval started at Srirangam and galloped its way upstream thru Kulithalai and Bhavani. Swaras took it up to Hogenakal and beyond.

2. Past masters were channeled during the concert - SSI, MDR, MMI all showed their presence.

3. Volume modulation was also used as a technique while presenting the concert. The overall volume levels were on the low side relative to a usual concert (Even Dr. Kartik went along cheerfully) and judicious use of higher volume by open throated singing created quite a dramatic effect.

4. If you are looking for intensity in a concert, you cannot beat the JV, Dr.Kartik combo. Just ask Sid Sriram.

5. M.Rajeev, rarely seen of late has become the reigning King of Mellow Violinists, bringing Sowkyam into even a Trichur Bros. concert the other day.

6. Arjun Ganesh uses the left side of the Mrdangam very effectively quite like SRR sir. Dr. Kartik draws attention to it well.

7. Dr.Kartik's composition in Shanmugapriya was set almost like a swarajathi without the swaras :D

8. Both are dari nerigi (but very different) giving us the santa silli :D
