I am not usually that keen on double mridangam. There is not enough difference to give variety to the ear like ghatam etc, and they can be a little prone to "over-enthusiasm!" There was none of that on this occasion: the accompaniment was subtle and restrained throughout and simply enhanced the performance. Violin too. It was a great concert, with, as Suresh said, perfect teamwork.
The artists appeared to be having a lot of fun together: do they feel less restrained without an audience? Looks like we need them more than they need us!

Interesting observation! Right from the pre-concert mike testing where they played a brisk swara korvai and exchanged notes on it, the artistes seemed happy to just be back together on stage - audience or none.
