Ravi,
This is the 'apalam, capalam, caplAyiRE ke duniyA ko chOD tEri gali AyirE AyirE AyirE' sisters Sai and Subbulakshmi!

CML,
Is the singer P.A. Periyanayaki, their aunt? Sounds like her. She did not stay for long in the limelight but was really an impressive singer. Gave concerts too.
As for the sisters, they were live wire on stage. I used to see them play pANDi in PAP's front yard on my way to school. Wondered why they didn't go to school and could play all day. I wished I could trade places!

How much attention I paid to the lessons is yet another question!

In the scene, I had a glimpse of Bhanumati and MGR. Was Nagaiyya there too?

That is classic Kharaharapriya from 'malai kaLLan'!
I agree it is PA periyanaayaki. I love her voice which has 'azhuttham'
Thanks Shankar!

I wondered if they had costarred in any picture other than MalaikkaLLan and this title was unknown to me. MGR was very good in it too. What is the kharaharapriya song? Was the shaNmukhapriya song 'nalla Sakunam nOkki SellaDi' from this film? Bhanumati's singing had such charm. The film was made into Hindi as AzAd starring Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari(?). Reading the book was even better, of course.
Perianayaki did have azhuttam in her singing. She reminds me of M. S. Sheela when I try to recollect he face and personality. The voice too, somewhat.

A rare solo by Lalita: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPLgY2qskz4 - CML - do you know who the singer is?

Ragini (without Padmini) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2tazpNdU8Y&feature=fvw - The singer is Jikki, right?

And one with all three of them (a very early one - they certainly had a more polished look in later films) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhR88iPv ... re=related

Ravi,
unaik kaNDu mayangAda pERgaLuNDO? was originally sung by MKT and the same song is repeated here by a woman (don't know the voice).
The Travancore sisters had a dance number or two in a lot of films--before they became actresses. It took Padmini several years to shed her strong malayALam accent. Lalitha was a natural, and in earlier years was easily the best. Padmini was a late bloomer when it came to acting. Acting with Shivaji helped too.
