Indeed. They lit up the big screen and the song became immortal.
There is one more duet from the film which was very good too. And rasik balmA (mohanam/bhUpAli based) by lata. Shankar&Jaikishan stole our hearts in this AVM's copy (no rights!) of an old Capra film?

Yes, great songs. One thing about the picturization of such old songs is, actors do not necessarily do much. These days there are hundreds of people in the song and umpteen location changes.. This especially caught my attention..At around 1:50, when RK starts singing, only his lips move!! He stares without even blinking. And after 15 seconds, one little deft hand gesture.. that is all it takes. The whole song is pretty much that, just singing and the facial expressions carry the emotional load.. Quite a different time.

May be, if they bring such things back, it will be quite endearing and a hit too. Whispers are heard loudly in a noisy room.....going against the grain can be a profitable move too.

Who knows? You may have a capital idea there!
Just look at their facial expressions and moves too. Black and white didn't bombard your vision--there weren't umpteen extras distracting you away from the sentiments of the song.
Now I remember the other song: E rAt bhIgi bhIgi, E mast nazzArEn uTA dhIre dhIre O chAnd pyArA pyArA.

Yes, wonderful melody. In fact they did not have even put in all those chorus of violins playing along with the singers.

Yeh raat bheegi bheegi... ah, what a song!
Lata's voice is so mesmerising.

They don't make 'em like that any more... :(

Thanks, r-t!
Dilip Kumar too has sung one in pILu in the film musAfir, I think. LAgi jhUTi. We were thrilled to know that our matinee idols could sing too--that too when Rafi, Mukesh, Manna Dey and Talat lent their voices to them in hundreds of songs!

POST NO 4 Rasik balma is based on raag shud kalyan . Arasi is nearly correct as the song contains notes of both bhupali as well as kalyani Such songs touch the goggles of your heart even after 60 years. gobilalitha

Some find! Takes me back more than half a century down memory lane.
Yes, we Dilip Kumar fans couldn't believe that the great actor could sing too!
Thanks ;)
