Dear Sri cmlover:

I saw your post re: P. U. Chinnappa's Nadaialangaram from Kubera kuchela. I believe you wanted the song - here it is:

What a sweet picture of the dear lady! Is that a microphone? Way before my times! See how she is elevated!

Interesting: for me, (and I suspect, many others) KBS was synonymous with 'avvaiyAr' - nice to see a different picture.

Ravi,
She WAS a sweet lady. When I was little, :) she was past her prime. Her humility and simplicity impressed me. I had in my autograph book her signature with vElum mayilum thuNai written above it. Her husband (S.G. Kittappa) in being a leading (singing) actor on stage, was flamboyant, perhaps. By the time I encountered KBS, she was widowed...

when i go through the life history of KBS i come to the conclusion that SGK though a great musician did not deserve a noble lady like KBS as his wife!

Meena,
Of course, I would have obliged if I had it in my possession! The dinosaur has roamed many lands and it couldn't pack more than a few suitcases at a time:) What I mean is, it was so long ago and I still rue the loss of my childhood autograph book containing lines and signatures of the literati and stars of those days. Yet, I savor the moments of encounters with the luminaries in the Arts--Yes, I was a fortunate child...

Can Someone Upload The Songs From The Tamil Film 'kokilavani'(1950's I Think), Music Set By G.ramanathan. The Songs Were Almost Pure Carnatic, And Seerkazhi Was At His Best.

BTW can anyone enlighten me on what raaga is 'vasantha kAlam varumO' based? It sounds like 'govinda niNNe' which is in janasamodini. But I have heard someone say it is based on malayamarudam.

The song 'vasantakalam varumo' from the film 'marakka mudiyuma' seems to be based on the raaga abhogi or may be abhogi kanada(hindustani). maagamadaadadasarigarisadasadaada excuse me if I am wrong gobilalitha

I again come to the doubt about the raaga of the song 'vasantakalam varumo'. chalanata's guess whether it is valaji can also be taken as correct though I would say it is Abhogi. Delhi Sunderrajan's praise about the great maestro sri TNS's Shruthi Bedham throws some light on the subject quoting Delhi Sunderrajan about TNS "His Shruti Bedahm pallavi 'Abhogi Ragathil Madhymama Mooechanaye Valaji Ragathil Moorchanaye Abhogi' where the concept of Shruthi Bedham (madhyama morchani. The latter resulting in Abhogi. A rare treat to the listeners.." Thank you Bhuvana (My Daughter) for enlightening on the subject GOBILALITHA
