#1 Papanasam Sivan Varnams

Post by preyas »

To the best of my understanding these are the Prada Varanams which are being done currently from the various Varnams the Saint Poet has written.

1. Mayam Edo Maya Malava Gowla- On Muruga
2. Nee Idea Mayam Dhanyasi - On Krishna
3. Unnai Ninaindhu Deanna Manohari - On Krishna
4. Swami Nee - Sri Ranjani - On Muruga
5. Swami Nan Undaani - Nattaikurunji - on Siva
6. Swami Keeravani - On Krishna
7. Karunai Seithidal Aagaatha on Siva

I believe he has written some other Varnams in Abhogi, Pantuvarali, Bilahari, Arabhi etc.

Has someone come across any other Pada Varnams which are taught or being danced to please

The only other padavarNAs I found are ainkaranai paNivAi in mOhana, unnai ninaindu uLLAm in dEvamamOhari, and svAmi undan caraNam in bilahari
The Arabhi rAgA song svAmi unnai sadA, the kAmavardhini rAgA song nIyE pEdai mukha, the AbhOgi song tanjam enrAlE nenjam are tAnavarNAs. Don't know if these are suitable for dances.

Mayam edo swami Varnam in Mayamalavagowla --- is that Papanasam sivan's composition or Dandayudapani pillai? I was told it is the latter....but here it is mentioned as Sivan Sir's.. Please clarify...

Can I get the notations for the Varnam? I found the translation here on Rasika!

TIA!

Papanasham Shivan has not composed any song with these starting words. Where did you come across this piece?

I have this padavarNa in my database. It is attributed to Papanasham Shivan. But it is not found in any of the 7 published volumes of his songs. Any idea of the composer?l Thanks.
