She was awarded the title 'Gayika Yuva Bharati' by Sringeri Sharada Peetam, PA in 2010.

Sahana gave her debut concert in the Cleveland Aradhana 2007 as the winner of the concert competition (http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2566). In her second concert in 2008, she had the privilege of being accompanied by Vidwan Ramnad Sri. Raghavan. Sahana has given vocal concerts in India and in the US.

Sahana has learnt western classical violin for about 6 years. Sahana plays carnatic violin by herself with guidance from her vocal teachers. She has provided violin accompaniment for many artists in the SFO Bay area, the Cleveland Aradhana and India.

Vanaja: I started the 'Emanathichedhivo, Sahana' video in a different tab, listening only to the audio while reading other things and thinking to myself that that is pretty good singing, quite mature and polished etc. After a while, I wanted to see who it is and switched to that tab. What a pleasant surprise! The confidence, quality and polish of her singing belies her age. Awesome. I then checked the past posts by her. re-acquainted myself about her background. That led me to recalling her excellent rendition of the Ravikiran's concept Korvai http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic. ... 01#p215301

Thanks for the information about her concert schedule. All the best to her.

Who said CM is losing popularity amongst youngsters--especially outside India. Sahana is living proof to refute that!! Listened to the Emanachithivo(Sahana)--mighty impressed--at an young age she has imbibed so much of the Brinda Muktha Bani --Ramnad krishnan used to excel singing this beautiful krithi--saw the prizes she has won--not surprised at all!!
Would try to coax some chennai reviewers I know to review the concert(s).

I watched the clips and liked Sahana's sahAna alapanai. Good open-throated singing. Best wishes to her through the season and beyond!

Incidentally, how old is she? And are there any clips of her on the violin?

Thanks mahavishnu, vasanthakokilam, rshankar, Lakshmanji, VRV, PUNARVASU,MKR Sir, rajeshnat and bilahari for your kind words, encouragement and wishes.

vasanthakokilam: IIRC, that thread inspired Sahana to create korvais using complementary sequences and progressive sequences and I think she sang them in a couple of concerts this summer.

VRV: Thank you and I look forward to meeting you.

MKR Sir: Actually, in that concert Sahana was fortunate to have Sri.R.K.Ramanathan(son of Ramnad Sri. Krishnan) and other votaries of Brinda-Muktha school like Prof.C.S.Seshadri, Spencer Sri.Venugopal in the audience.

bilahari: I will upload a few violin accompaniment clips, most likely after the season.

Best wishes to Sahana! May your season be fantastic!
I am so glad to see youngsters like Sahana and Aishu from the U.S., musically gifted, and academically brilliant managing to pull off these things with seemingly effortless ease - but knowing all the hard work that goes into it, hats off to your incredible dedication, time-management skills, and enthusiasm.

Vanaja may your season be filled with moments that MahAkavi Bharati so beautifully described, with mEni silir-ttal aplenty!

(and similar wishes to Aishu and Vinod)....

That's quite a list for a first season: she has obviously made her mark already! All best wishes to her :)

Whoa... I read the first post without looking at the date! Two years ago. So now she is established!

Sorry for the delayed response. After a hectic(for me) music season trip,I needed a few weeks to get back to normalcy.

VK Raman sir: Here are a few links. I will post more once I get the recordings organized.

Seethanayaka- Reethigowlai(R,N) with M.Vijay(violin) and Akshay Ram(mridangam)

Giripai-Sahana(R,N,S,T) with M.Vijay(violin) and Akshay Ram(mridangam)

Meenalochana-Dhanyasi(R,N,S,T) with Srividya R.S.Iyer(violin) and Ravi Ravichandra(mridangam)

rshankar: Thanks for your wishes. The season was fantastic for Sahana with inspiring music/accompanists. I had a good season as a rasika, listened to other musicians also.

For me, the mEni silir-ttal usually happens not in Sahana's season concerts, but in her impromptu music sessions at home when she gets struck in a math problem! Sometimes, she spends hours/days meditating on a problem without any apparent progress.... Her insights become dead-ends! At these moments, she either starts singing or playing the violin. The music that comes thro her at these times, indeed gives me mEni silir-ttal a plenty! I miss that music as much as her physical presence now that she is in the other coast during the academic year.

Nick: Thanks. Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't sure what to do, whether to start a new thread or continue in the old one.

Awesome. That is deep internal emotional state being reflected in her music. You are very privileged to be around her during those times and listen to such music. Surely, those are situations that are never to reoccur in the same way. If at all there is some truth to the saying 'live in the present moment', it applies to such things. You can't afford to worry about capturing it for later listening etc since such thoughts take you away from that very moment.

Listened to her Dhanyasi alapana a little bit. Well done in bringing out the raga in its pristine form. I will come back to that later. That is a favorite song of mine in Dhanyasi.
Listening to her Sahana now. Excellent singing.

Congrats Sahana.

I have listened to her Kharaharapriya. She sang it extremely well. Each and every bit was juicy. Very knowledgeable singing indeed. She enjoyed it well and made the listeners also enjoyed well. Accompaniments are also well. Fortunately Violin-tani was not cut. But I do not know why Mridangam-tani was cut, unfortunately. I wish all of them the best. amsharma

AMSharmaji: My namaskarams to you. Thank you for listening and taking the time to write. Sahana is really fortunate to receive your blessings and encouragement. Actually, the mridangam tani is continued in Part3. The recorder creates a new file automatically if the size is more than some default.

VK: Thank you for your kind words.

Also, I feel I will be somewhat intrusive if I try to record.

MKR sir: Thank you and as you say Akellaji's words are a very precious gift that Sahana is fortunate to receive. I don't do any hard work. Sahana is very fortunate to learn from the finest teachers and music is in her mind most of the hours she is awake.
