K.N.Shshikiran on Brindamma

Post by kvchellappa »

"The great Semmangudi mama told me once when I wanted to bring out his recording, pls bring out your guru Brindamma ' s recording to the world. At that time not a single recording apart from the AIR was commercially available. Later eith the support of her family members i did manage to bring out one recording of hers and the first copy was given to Semmangudi Mama who played and heard it almost everyday till his last called her Sangeetha Devathai...."

He didn't do a favor to his SiShyAs , neither did he to hers! The famous adage in Mylapore is 'ivariDam irundu oru kAsu pEratu' ( you cannot get a penny of benefit from him) - but yet he did teach a lot of people and established a SiSya parampara that had a slow and steady revival!

A man of contradictions! Sunil Gavaskar is a good analogy for him during his reign!
