The Pushpavanams

Post by vsn69 »

Sri Madurai Pushpavanam Iyer was a leading musician in the early 1990s. Sri Madurai Mani Iyer was his nephew and Smt Rajam Pushpavanam, his daughter, a famed musician in 1930s and early 1940s.
Sri Pushpavanam died early; he was just 28, leaving behind a great legacy.

A picture of Sri Madurai Pushpavanam, Smt Sundarambal Pushpavanam and a young Sri Madurai Mani on his lap

Smt Sundarambal was a very, very beautiful woman, more than matching Sri Madurai Pushpavanam's looks.

#2-> Respected Sir, I think, there is a thread dedicated to Madurai Pushpavanam Iyer. in vidvans/vidhushi section. We can search in google and if there is no such thread, we can create one. and add the page from pasupathy's blog there. I suggest that you create separate threads each for Sri.Pushpavanam and Smt. Rajam. ( your grandfather and then your mother,as I understand). Both had distinct personalities and contributions. There are three or four tube links for the songs by Smt.Rajam.and I have some pages about Smt.Rajam. If you combine them, the chances of getting rare info about your grandfather's records will become slimmer. But, there should be a few as she was contemporary of Madurai Shanmugavadivu ( MS's mother and we have veena recital records by her).
As for moving this to the respective section, I think, any post stands a better chance of being noticed if a link is given in general discussion first and then more details in the respective section. (ex) you can say , I have posted a new entry in the thread (<thread name>" on <.....> . Better still , a google website page first and a link in rasikas will give more latitude about length, images, language etc.
I hope the MODs will approve.

just now googled for 'madurai pushpavanam iyer' and got the rasikas thread

wiki gives interesting information about Smt.Rajam ( daughter of Madurai Pushpavanam)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajam_Pushpavanam
SRUTHI magazine has brought out a specail issue honouring her, I understand.
(all thanks to google)
Sri.Swaminathan can initiate a new thread on Smt.Rajam, in musicians section. and give links to her songs in tube.

Mods
The Madurai pushpavanam thread is already there
https://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopi ... 12&t=25295

You may have to merge these posts to that thread

Possibly take all the posts of Rajam Pushpavanam and have a newer thread.

Thank you very much. That was very informative. I am ok with your idea and also can look at what Rajeshji is saying.
I have quite a lot of information that I can post on both Sri Pushpavanam and Smt Rajam Pushpavanam.

Best Regards

RSRji & Rajeshji,

Do we wait for the Mods? Since you also say that it's better to have one in the General Section, this thread can remain
I can repost these in the new threads. Will wait for you to suggestion..

#7->Respected Sir, I think, it is better to leave this thread as such........ 'the pushpavanams'. Kindly begin a new thread for 'Smt.Rajam. after checking up for any thread for her ( I dont think there is any thread for her right now.) So, we will have three threads, one for Sri.Pushpavanam, another for Smt.Rajam and a third(the present one) for all related information. Henceforth, any further posts regarding them can be in musicians section. I think, the MODs would prefer to leave this thread ,as it is. Best Regards.

Are you building a google website? That'll be a great idea.
