After listening to these 3 concerts, I think OST is the MOST UNDERRATED Carnatic Musician. His alapanas, nerevals, swarams, and even sangathis in krithis, are so arresting! There is never a boring moment! I also love his krithi choice. He reminds me of Ramnad Krishnan with his brigas, madhyama kala renditions, and similar voice. I hope he gets 2018 Sangeetha Kalanidhi.

+1
He deserves the Sangeetha Kalanidhi for two reasons:
1. Singing great music
2. Reminding us what are the true values of CM, in the middle of all this din and drama.

There are a plenty of Sanjays, Sudhas and the like who are bery bery old who need to be given the Kolanidhi title on priority. So good musicians getting the Kalanidhi title is doubtful, at least based on the recent trends.

Now the 2017 season is not over, the debate for 2018 looks like it will begin pretty soon !

He is unlikely to get it anyways next year, since it is reserved to an old, mediocre, lady vocalist (two of four criteria OST doesn't meet, and to meet he would need to lower standards and undergo a gender reassignment surgery).

O. S. Thyagarajan was born on the 11th of April, 1947.

I guess, by Carnatic standards (think Semmangudi/TK Murthy/TV Gopalakrishnan) he is pretty young

There is a high probability that The Cowherdess, She Who Rapps, 'Abhinaya Bhayankara' Aruna Sayeeram gets it next year.

On that note...

BHOLO SAYEERAM!
