Pallavi darbar

Post by ratanabhinav »

This year , Pallavi darbar must alter its rules . This year , for a change the musicians must compose a raga themselves and sing RTP in it . Or ragamalika RTP in ragas they have composed . Even while they sing ragamalika thanam / swaras they must sing in ragas composed by them . This way , their scholarship and merit would come out . And music would grow , within the boundaries of classical ' tradition ' . Brings back the aura and feel of the olden days when musicians used to compose ragas .

How many instances do know of people singing RTP in ragas created by themselves? I can't think of one.

Talam yes. Raga though?

I still don't get it, what do you mean by "compose" ragas?

May be they should also discover a new element in the periodic table :D

I was hoping you meant "Compose Pallavis". Which in itself is quite difficult, to make up something catchy and memorable.

Created ragas yes, RTP in that raga? Haven't heard of it. GNB infact rarely sang his own compositions, let alone RTP in Shivashakthi. BMK is the only musician that comes to mind immediately, though from all the concert recordings I've heard, rarely sang a RTP in Lavangi or Ganapthi. Futile exercise in my opinion.

Haven't we got enough unexplored ragas already- there is no need to create anymore - also these things shd be inspired and not given as a theme - else it will end up like MMU thematic concerts- most of the times the song list is boring and predictable

Rare ragas can be given as an option
