I heard two versions of Endaro Mahanubhavulu sung at Thyagaraja Aradhana. One recording was of 1984, including- M.S. Subbulakshmi, Semmangudi, Maharajapuram, etc. The other one was the recent- 2018.
A question which aroused in my mind, just after listening to theses two versions, why the tempo is very laid back in the recent TA as compared to the older ones? I found that in the older video, there were people older than the people who were in the recent video , and their performance was way more lively and energetic.
So, was there some sort of 'unsaid pact' between the recent performers to perform in slower tempos ?

Lack of enthusiasm may be the reason.
TA has become an annual ritual.
