Sri Ramanathapuram MN Kandasamy Pillai Remembrance day - organized in memory of his Guru by Sri Arun Prakash.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5elRjtAnslo

Many general approaches on rAgas were discussed. Certain generalizations were laid out. E.g: In ragas with D2 N3 - N3 always gets closer to S'.

pantuvarALi - G3 how it cannot be stayed on - to be handled fleeting vs. pURvikalyANi

kEdAra gauLa and sahAna differences were discussed few times at different places. The former was contrasted with suruTTi as well.

In the interactive:
Examples brought out by Sri NSG : svAminAtha - nATTai - in vAmadEva pARvati - possible occurrence of D2. Sri Ravikiran mentioned he adopts a PD3N3S there as D3 is allowed. Distinguishes between siddhi and buddhi - where in the former accomplished vidvAns can take a liberty.

vivAdi rAgas and their limitations as regards elaboration were discussed.

Based on many points covered across various moments throughout - it seems to me that asampURNatvam wins and Carnatic music creates rAgAs by deleting notes. And naively stating: Hindustani may be doing it by adding notes like in miSra kApi - the rAgA from the Adi rAgA - kafi thaT and the general bhashAngam approach.

The only truly sampURNa rAgAs seem to be kalyANI and tODi. All others have limitations on treating individual notes. SankarabharaNam for example makes N3 anusvara and in many a lakshana sD2p seems to be the approach.

KaraharapriyA as pointed out in the forum was merely a scale - later that is a work of labor by Sri tyAgarAja and his layam and the forces!

There was a discussion about SrI Rajararatnam Pillai's tOdi exposition as regards holding N2 plain - where it was mentioned that he makes it work using the tone plus what all he did before doing that.

Interesting session. Ravikiran laid out a few "directive principles" of CM that may help untangle some messy conundrums. Q&A could have been done better - there was quite a bit of elaborate bike shedding on trivia. And some thought provoking questions that got the short shrift.
