Are we sure that there can be a universally acceptable decision?

Post by kvchellappa »

Suppose we have an experts committee drawn from the vocal rasikas here, many of whom profess to know better than the so-called experts that decide the ‘real’ award, and they sit to decide on the candidate, will they be able to come to a unanimous decision, or at least a consensus? Will those that are ruled out in the committee justify the committee’s choice? Will that decision pass muster amongst a wider population of knowledgeable rasikas?
How can there be such categorical opinions dumping an artist that has taken active interest in the art and worked the way up in a rarefied field and won the hearts of innumerable rasikas? How is our high brow attitude in place casting aspersions on the rasikatva of people that have been spearheading the spread of the art form not only in India but also abroad? I wonder whether we are being fair and add to the worth of this forum by disparaging remarks.
