viDudi (viDuthi) kIrtanAs

Post by Lakshman »

Does anyone know what this term means? Looks like Gopalakrishna Bharati has composed some of these. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Lakshman,
Only a guess on my part, but here it is. With flowers, after you make a garland or strands, what's left over is viDudip pU. You also need vidudip pU for performing archanA. So, it's possible that the odd songs that GKB composed, those other than the Chidambaram songs were called viDudi kIrtanAs, perhaps?

Another guess. Viduthi in tamil means residence or house or place. These could be compositions about Places or houses of worship instead of deities.

Can it be keertanas not belonging to his Nandanar Caritram or other operas?
In the sense of 'vidupaattupona' keerthanaigal.

Viduthi keerthana list has Nandanar Caritram songs?

Could be, in the sense of 'extra'--in still current, but old MA parlance, idara vagaigaL (other kinds) which amuses me as much now as it did, when I was a child...:)

.
விடுதி (viDudi)means: “stray, occasional verse”
Other words with same meaning: விடுகவி (viDukavi), விடுபாட்டு (viDupATTu), தனிப்பாடல் (tanippADal)
