Is there a scale that goes like (for eg lets say janya of shankarabharanam)

(aro) s g p n s - (avaro) s d m r s

except for s, the aro and avaro dont have any common svaras. If such a scale already exists, any compositions on that ? im not that imaginative, so i would like to know how this scale sounds.

thanks!

dear vasya
The idea of starting a technical section is to pose questions of this sort to set folks thniking as well as innovate. Would you lke to pose this there so that there may be more viewings as well as responses too!).

I like the idea and look forward to the answers.

Incidentally what happened to that superb raga engine? Is it out of the workshop?

The minimum number of notes in arhoahanm/avarohanam of a scale is 5 (Owdavam), as per established tradition of carnatc music.

Few raga composers such as Balamurali who want to break tradition have composed with just 4 notes.

The raga example you have suggested is non-standard. Not sure if such a raga exists.

One such raga with minimum swaras is Devendra Chakravaham:

Sa Ga Pa Ni (ascending)
Sa Ni Pa Ga (descending)

"Adhisaya Ragam" - the Tamil Movie Song sung by KJY is in this raga, with music composed by MS Viswanathan. In the midst of the song, you will find the words "Indira Logathu Chakravaham " which is the name of the raga.

The second one, the raga of which I do not know, but Sivaraman would know is "Umasutham Namami" composed by BMK. It has only the following swaras:

Sa Ma Pa (A)
Pa Ma Sa (D)

The raga designed by BMK for athisaya ragam was called mahati. He named it after his daughter. Here is the quote from
