I just heard a rare sublime krithi in the above raaga (named after Godess SrI Mahalakshmi) - ''Sri Bhargavi Bhadram Me''

It sounded very similar to Nadanamakriya (both are MMG janyas).

Can someone kindly enlighten where the differences come from?

Warm Regards

Hallo Basu 27,
There are 10 versions for the above (MMg- janya raga)

AROH: AVAROH REFERENCE:

SA MA GA MA PA MA DA NI SA- SA NI DA PA MA GA RI SA S.Pradharsini

SA MA GA MA PA MA GA MA -DO- Rangaiah-Mysore

SA RI GA MA SA MA GA MA PA MA GA MA -DO- -do-

SA RI GA MA PA DA SA -DO- DR.BMK

SA MA GA MA PA -DO- -D0

SA RI GA MA PA MA GA PA DA NI SA -DO- SangithaRAAga l
KaDal-MahaDevan

SA RI MA GA PA DA SA -DO- GNB

SA RI GA RI SA MA GA MA PA DA SA N D PA MA GA RI GA RI S -Samp-Pradharsini

SA MA GA MA PA MA PA NI DA PA MA GA RI SA Dr.BMK

Since the Avarohanam for all most all the versions are MMG only, it tends to look like MMG.

svAti tirunAL has composed the utsava prabandha kr.ti, "Shibikaiyil un," in this rAga as well. http://www.swathithirunal.in/htmlfile/328.htm

I have heard two distinct versions of this kriti Sri bhArgavI. Both of them treat the raga as a derivative of mAyAmALavagouLa.

One of them there is the usage of chyuta panchama = fallen panchama ~ which can be approximated to prati madhyama. So this version uses both varieties of madhyama. [ This is true with some other janyas of mAyAmALavagouLa like rAmakali, pUrvi etc, gouLipantu etc] composed by MD. And this is how the rAga is described in SSP. The usage of two madhyamas gives a distinct color to the rAga. Refer to SSP vol 1, page 148 - available at http://www.ibiblio.org/guruguha/sspone_click.pdf

The other version uses only shuddha madhyama and has to depend on the not so prominent vakra pryOgas, (and slower kAlapramANa ?) to be distinguished from mAyAmALavagouLa.

I think a version of the (now) M2 version was on the web somewhere (guruguha.org?)

During this navratri, I heard the other version (i think) - it did have a more nAdanAmakriya feel, slower kalapramANam too. Not 100% sure but I think it didnt have a M2 feel in it.

Can someone with TKG's compilation of MD's kritis check this one? IIRC, there is an alternate rAga mentioned for this kriti (Sri Bhargavi)
