Panchapatram stands for patram made of pancha lokam (five metals)! It is very sacred to use such patrams just like vigrahams made of panchalokam.

i believe there originally were 5 patras used in worship. even now in temples you will see 5 vessels being using by priests in worship. perhaps it refers to that.
also it is not udruni. it is uddhariNa. i've heard it being called uddharaNi/uddhariNi also.

The set of vessels used for ArAdhana etc can be five or more. That is not the reason for calling them pancapAtraM.
the vessel used for sandhyAvandanam or archana is usually broader, and shaped differently from the ones we use to drink out of. One of the meanings of the word panca is broad or spread out. this is the source of the name.

uddharaNi is derived from ut (upwards)+ verb dhar to bear. Since it is used to meter out or spoon out contents, it is ut-dharaNi.
