Sorry Cmloverji and others who have been wondering whatever happened to my promises of uploading a few viruttams in carnatic style! I have been meaning to do so but have not yet managed to get time off to record a noise free rendition. By noise I mean my two-yr old's screams Probably i should take my recorder to my class where i can record!
Kji:
The uploads of Smt. Haimonti Shukla were out of the world!! The Yaman bhajan "Adi Ant...." totally mesmerised me and it took me back to the time I went to Sri Gondavlekar Maharaj's Ashram. Thank You so much!! The other two were good too especially Lachaki. And the other one, was it Raag Nand? But Yaman has always been my favourite and will be always.
For now I have only this to offer from my pre-recorded cassette:

Here is the sloka 'Gajaananam' recorded this morning. Hopefully i can get some more quiet time and could do some good singing/recording of more slokas. I am not satisfied with this but I thought let me post this as something is better than nothing!

RAVI:
To tell you the truth, I did not put much thought into this before singing the sloka. Since is kalyani and yamuna kalyani are personal favourites, the first that came to me was this.
But I think, usually one does sing slokas in ragas that have a meditative mood. eg. Revati/Bairagi, Chakravaham/ahir bhairav, Shubhapantuvarali/thodi etc. I guess, slokas carrying salutations are sung in meditative ragas.
Slokas which are generally stutis or stotras like "Madhurashtakam, Krishnashtakams, etc. could be sung almost in any other raga which could be elaborated at length. For eg. Kalyani, Hamsadhwani, neelambari etc.
CMLOVER:
I did not understand what you meant by 'more serious stuff.' Do u want me to post more slokas or something else like kirtanams/bandishes etc. Do let me know.

Here is another slokam 'Shantakaram'....After listening, I thought I could have done it in a relaxed and better manner, but the next time i record something, i will do so after Hiranmayi (my two-yr old) is asleep.... so that my singing is not cut short by her....

Ravi,
I will do so in future! Right now, I am trying to record the varnam in Lathangi which I have it written as Mysore Vasudevachar's. But I remember that Lji and DRS have checked the same and have said its not MV's. Anyway I will post it, say by tomorrow and you all can tell me whom u think is the composer.

Thanks Sumati! Short and sweet!
HMB has composed a few in valaji but the famous one is jalandhara. You can see the lyric at
http://www.geocities.com/promiserani2/c1010.html
It will be great to hear it in your voice!
Also continue with the shlokams and ragamalikai as and when your little sweetie lets you off on your own

Yes it was Jalandhara that i was not able to recollect but now thanks to you I got it! I dont know this kriti though I can learn it and then render the same. I thought of recording the Latangi varnam yesterday but we went to Prof. Prema Panduranga's Bhagawatam discourse and plan to do so today too. Hence I guess I will be able to record it tomorrow again, only if my Hiranmayi sleeps in the afternoon!!!
