increase in spam

Post by vasanthakokilam »

As many of you have noticed, there has been an increase in spam (mostly advertising.) We have been cleaning those up as and when we see them. our thanks to all those who have reported them to the Moderator team. We wish we can send individual emails acknowledging your help but please be assured we find those reports useful. Thanks very much. Continue to report them and we will clean them up, even if we are a bit late in doing so.

You are also doing well in not responding to those posts. Thanks

I wonder whether these are robot signing in and posting? If so, a Captcha might help to avoid this!!!

The user 'Margazhi' has been banned for troll-like behaviour.

As many of you have seen, there was a big spike in spam posting. Thanks for all your alerts and notifications and for putting up with all that noise.
srkris has put in a new policy for sign up and hopefully that will help in this issue.

It is very helpful of them to post in scripts which are neither roman nor anything of Indian origin, or to use languages in which members here are highly unlikely to post. It wastes much less of our time that the previous batch, which were obviously hand-made for the forum, with almost-appropriate content. I think there are sweat shops where people are paid a pittance to spam like that. I think I'd rather beg on the streets!

Thanks VK for the cleanup. Until the spam subsides, I will approve all new registrations manually.

That is awesome srkris; but won't it be too much for one person to approve new registration? . If any of us is needed, we will be happy to volunteer for that.

I can also volunteer like vkraman and help since spam usually comes when you(UK time zone) or VK (US time zone)are asleep.
I hope you also take a daily regular scheduled backup.

Thanks, I find it manageable. Will take your help if it becomes too much work.
