Introductory books for an interested listener?

Post by lordofthesenses »

Can anybody recommend any good books for an introduction to the history and basics of Carnatic music? I am a listener, not a practitioner, so I am not familiar with the technical aspects.

Though a book was asked for, I am suggesting my websites. and a book in website form. It is for absolute beginners.

Dr. Sriram, thank you very much for these links. I'm yet to go through them in their entirety but they seem to have a lot of useful material for a beginner like me.
