Rave Himagiri Kumari...
She is coming on a caparisoned elephant in a royal, unhurried gait.
Sornalata sounding good.
The last round of swaras grounded in the lower octave (with the lowest Sa emphasised) elicited applause. Voice sounds a bit raspy.

Like a birthday kid who discovers a turbo mode in his toy Ferrari on the next morning and freaks out, the second song was the Shahana Varnam with some brisk tanam and swaras thrown in to complement the usual swara cycles. TMK spoke at the end of the song that it was an intelligent improvisation and not done on a mere whim.
Then came Dhanyasi. It refused to get off the ground of Todi until Sornalata took it to heights. She changed the raga to Ahiri. TMK moved to Suruti. She came back with Devagandhari. TMK moved on to Saurashtra and settled with ninnu juci.
Then came a Keeravani. TMK put his best effort in this, I found his voice loud and harsh. But perhaps triggered by Sornalata, he rose to great heights with voice modulation and sang some great tanam at the top Sa.

Will continue.

Tani... Delivered in the same super soft and slow tempo by Arun Prakash. By the way throughout his accompaniment enhanced the impact of TMK's singing very much. Guruprasad on ghatam brought much verve to the percussion interlude.
Then came 4 post-main, post-tani songs:
1. Ene Shukabhashini - Kannada DVG Antahpurageete Behag. A lovely teaser of a song addressed to a damsel given to gossip and much socialising. (Belur figurine of a damsel with a parrot)
2. Sindhu bhairavi tiruppavai (I liked Sornalata's short alaap) - andri ivvulagam
3. Karpuram narumo -Nacchiar Thirumozhi- Khamas
4. Ba re Panduranga - Misra Maand Abhang

The post main section of a TMK concert is very much like an MSS concert to me, in terms of the joy factor.
If someone is interested, I am willing to put in the effort to transcribe the Kannada lyrics and give you the meanings 🙂

Meaning:
Oh damsel in dialogue with your parrot, what news/message are you sending, you romantic one!?
Whom are you praising, and whom are you putting down (in gossip or complaint)
As you whisper to your parrot to convey your amorous message to your beloved!?
What anxieties, what secret joys
Are you conveying to your lover,
Don't you know your words may make Him also restless?
Did you find only a wild denizen to carry your coy message, and praise your looks,
Couldn't you find anyone else to carry the message to your beloved Cennakezava
Of your feelings and also to praise your beauty to Him?

Any special reason this is in Event announcements rather than concert review? TMK factor?
Possibly, the opener was waiting for an event viz. arrival of Krishna, and after he arrived everything else was forgotten, like the gopis forgot pati, suta, bhratru and bandhavas (gopika gitam).

Yes, sir, actually I didn't plan to make it like a review. Increasingly I feel my inadequacies in that regard.
I also forgot to mention the song, Kaligiyunte. After the Kiravani tanam etc., TMK asked his disciples what song he should sing, then took up the song from the anupallavi, upper Sa.

A few more notes.
http://www.samaganasabha.com/
Bharatiya Samagana Sabha, spelt with different number of a's in banners, logos etc. is really a megascale sabha. They bring out a glossy well presented magazine The First Melody priced at ₹100 per issue. Their annual fest is upmarket, held in Chowdiah. I am sure they must be paying the artistes well, too.
They have music from morning till evening. Tickets for the big name concerts in the evening can be booked on Bookmyshow and you get a reserved seat in the front. There is a large shamiana canteen run well by By 2 Coffee.
DD may broadcast portions of this festival soon.

The Gundecha Bandhu presented भिंङपलश्री, the currently called Bhimplasi. Dr Misra of Udaipur, the oldest living Dagar vani exponent, explained how the Sama Veda had 7 Geetis and one of them is Bhinna Geeti.

I had to leave in the middle... The raga unfurled itself in delightful resonance and utter majesty.

God bless!

Wondering if there is any opportunity to listen to a recording from this concert, specifically Ene Shukabhashini - Kannada DVG Antahpurageete Behag

Sreeni,
You're lucky.
Against my norm, at the request of my fellow attendee, I made this recording:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O7t5hh ... sp=sharing

Since Samagana Sabha normally upload HD videos a little afterwards, I expect TMK will be online soon.

Sachi avare!

Lucky, I am. Indeed! All I had to do is ask!

Thank You!

Any opportunity to connect with memories that are heartwarming, I ask!

How can I forget the memories of the warmth that tAta DVG exuded towards me, a 8 year old kid! And memories of me, a witness to the interactions of some of the mahA-vidvAns of those days! DVG, Masti, Goruru, GP Rajaratnam, my Father Veene RajaRao, V See, M V See, Venkatachalapati, Nittoru Srinivasa Rao, S K Ramachandra Rao, U S Krishna Rao, Gamaki Raghavendra Rao, Gamaki Kaushik, C K Nagaraja Rao, .......... in the evening hours at GIPA in N R Colony!
I am getting too nostalgic once again (but it's been heartwarming, especially on this cold day here in Michigan)

Sreeni,
I just translated into English for someone an article by BVK on your father from ಪ್ರಜಾವಾಣಿ 🙂

I grew up in Basavanagudi in 50-60's.

Yes Sir! I have heard Sri T R Srinivasan's music available on the web before and listened to it again today. I have previously heard some collections of antahpura geetegalu by sugama sangeeta artistes as well!
