Shanmukhapriya being such a famous Raga, why it's Janya's are not famous ??

Only the Raga Chintamani created by Sri Shyama Shastri and the famous song " Devi Brova Samayamide " singly stand out as one of the Janya Ragas of Shanmmukhapriya.

I do know a janya named "TRIMURTHI" in which Panchamam is varjyam in both Arahonam & Avarohanam. Of course, plenty of janya ragas of Shanmukhapriya are listed in Music Books.

Can rasikas through some light on this.

Gopikatilakam (dhaivata varjyam) is a janya of Shanmukhapriya that was a favorite in Madurai Somu's repertoire (kriti: Maha Ganapati)

janya rAgAs of a popular janaka rAga need not be popular and vice versa

sumanEsa ranjani is a janya of shanmukha priya( rishabham and dhaivatham missing both in aro and ava)
here is a composition of S.Rajaram,grandson of Mysore Vasudevachar , sung by Hariprasad.

Dear Radhakrishnan Sir,

Thanks for SUMANESHARANJANI.

Very lovely song by S Rajaram & melodiously sung with bhavam by Hariprasad.
In the Raga Alapana, the artiste nicely brings out the absence of Rishabha & Daivatham. Similarly. TRIMURTHY raga can be expanded without any problem. I have a vague feeling that Dr.Muthiah Bhagavathar(HMB) must have made some compositions in the Janyas of Shanmukhapriya. Unknown Ragas such as NIROSHTA;GAUDAMALHAR;KARNARANJANI etc., have been handled by HMB.

It's nice that this thread has provided the oppurtunity to enjoy
" SUMANESHARANJANI"

Dear Mr. Radhakrishnan, The correct name of that beautiful raga is SUMANASARANJANI, but not Sumanesaranjani. amsharma.

shanmukhajanakA is the nice subtle way of indicating the raga!

Dear member, vs manjunath, Yesterday, accidentally, I happened to see your post asking me to describe the differences between some Ragas.
1) Karnataka Kapi – Janya of 22nd Mela Kharaharapriya – Arohana: s r m p n s, Avarohana: s n d n p m g r s – without any Anya-svara at all. Hindusthani Kapi – Janya of 22nd Mela Kharaharapriya – Arohana: s r m p n s, Avarohana: s n d n p m g r s – with 3 Anya-svaras, Antara-gandhara, Shuddha-dhaivata and Kakali-nishada.

2) Kannada – Janya of 29th Mela Dheera Shankarabharana – Arohana: s m g m D n s, Avarohana:
s n s D p m g m R s. Darbari Kaanada – Janya of 20th Mela Nathabhairavi – Arohana: s r m p D n s, Avarohana: s n s D n p m p G m r s.

Sorry for the delay. amsharma.

Manjunath - Sorry, I missed this posting earlier! I believe Mahaganapatim is Shri Somu's own kriti. Can someone here confirm this please.

Yes, it is Somu's composition. There is an HMV classic studio recording of this from the 1970s with LGJ & UKS. There is also another one called "mahA ganEsham in" Gopikathilakam sung by Somu(http://www.sangeethapriya.org/Downloads ... lgjpr.html

It is very similar to mahAgapatim bhAvayE. Not sure who the composer of this piece is.

In Post # 19, Shri Lakshman has given the Lyrics, with the Ragam as Gopika Tilakam, Adi Taalam.

Composer = ??

***********************

However, M Santanam has sung the same song in Ragam Kedaram here :
http://www.sangeethapriya.org/ -> Login
-> http://www.sangeethapriya.org/Downloads
-> http://www.sangeethapriya.org/Downloads ... /mumbai85/

And the description provided for the song states Lalita Dasar as the Composer :
02_mahaganapathim_bhavayE_kEdharam_lalithadasar_6.73_MB.mp3

The Downloaded Song runs for 7:21 m, and is of Size = 7,058,785 bytes.

So, would like to have :
1) Pl confirm that the Composer is Lalita Dasar.
2) The Taalam of the song rendered in Ragam Kedaram, above by M Santanam

Thanks in Advance (TIA)

Further, as I heard the song by M Santanam, there are some diffs wrt the Lyrics given in Post # 19.

I am NOT an expert, but here, I try to give the changed words - "as I could listen to the mp3 file" :
[Words which are not clear, are marked with a "??"] :

As I listened to the song by MSantanam :

P : mahA gaNapatim bhAvayE, (bhakta) manOratha Phala Pradam parabhrtam ? -> Vara Pradam
AP : mahAdEva satputram ibhava, sadgatram (bhOgachayakAryam ??) kunjara svarUpam
C : shata mOdaka priyam, chaturbhujam, sarva vihItam vinacara ? -> Vighna Vinashana kAraNam
budhajaya ? -> Budhashrayam (mOha mOdaka ??) pradAyakam, bhujagarAja vinacara -> BhushaNam (kAraNam ??)

Open to corrections by other members.

I once heard that Dr.BMK sang a rAgA by name 'prathimadhyamAvati'.If it is so probably it will become a janyam of ShanmukhapriyA.By vEnkatamahi's order hEmavati is behind shanmukhapriyA.I don't know if it is wrong to call 'madhyamAvati' a janyam of nata bhairavi.

Madhyamavati is very definitely classified as janya of Kharaharapriya-22.
