On a more serious note, Kiran! Im positive that you will be able to read the kannaDa script as telugu script is very similar to it.

Here it is, the maestro's own composition ,"Thamra lochani, Lathangi" .I find it enthralling and highly creative with his innovative prayogams in the raga alapana and the intricate tapestry of swaras that he has woven magically. The Tabla accompanist, I suppose is maestro Zakir Hussein, and he has amazingly brought the krithi alive with his own rhythmic interpretation of the swaras. Enjoy.

Nikhil Bannerjis Link deleted since It has been reported to me that Rajan Parrikkar is of the opinion that I have stolen it from his site - a mail which also suggests that I am some kind of a shameless thief " who is at IT again ".
Sometimes I wonder if the only mistake I did in this process , was not having referred to the place from where this track had originated-Which Parrikkar says is his site .
For the records
My failure to do so has never been intentional-It is simply a result of the failure of my tagging such details from my early days of building my archive.
But since these acts do end up in excruciating pain for me , I have decided to hang up my boots .
I have had my share of doubts about operating in a forum where I do not know 99 % of the members personally and to keep doing this activity in such a forum-even with the good intentions of helping spread a good word or a tune-is bound to be a foolish task , from now on.
Someday, if there is a close knit group evolving , with all identities known and intentions clear , please do drop a line at chennairasika@gmail.com.I will be willing to be a part of it.
But as far as rasikas.org goes, my uploads will stop.
Srkris-DRS
Please do cancel my membership .That should give some confidence to Parrikkar.
And kindly note that I will not respond to mails from any one on these issues.
Thanks for the nice time I had all these years.
Good Bye and Good Luck !!

Sripathi
This was one of the earliest tracks of MM Iyer I listened to, in the 80s-one that stunned me into becoming a huge fan of MM Iyer.
Enjoy !

Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan has done short sketches of about 75 ragams through a CD called MP3 CD titled "Introducing Ragas through Pallavis". Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan has sung a short alapana in each of these ragas followed by a pallavi with the raga name embedded. This is followed by swaras. It is available in Sangeethapriya http://www.sangeethapriya.org/~sridhara ... u-pallavi/kaashyab wrote:hello everybody i am a new user i want to know where i can get individual raga audio notations for the whole ragas pls help......... thanks

Ah, now you put me in a spot! To have perfect sAhityam or not...that's ALSO the question (Sigh). Well, if they HAVE to open a note book, let them limit it to that one new song. My question is, if the song is new to them, don't they have to pay attention to the song's other aspects too, like phrasing, smooth transition etc? If they concentrate only on words, can they sing wholeheartedly as they normally would?

I have seen some musicians refer to muktayis while rendering swara kalpana. I myself use a notebook to make sure I sing the caranams in the right order for say a swarajathi of syama sastry. Other than that if I am not comfortable with the words and meaning, I will wait until the next occassion to perform.
Regarding using notations for raga alanapana: I am not sure if any are available online, but my guru used to make me repeat alapana in class, record it and then ask me to write notation for it at home before I start practicing. Using these notations was allowed for practice but not listening to the tape. The point was to get the jist of the raga as you notate but use your own imagination as you reconstitute the raga.
I just started using this mehtod with one of my students.

Re: LATHANGI
Hi everyone! I happened to stumble upon this thread. Quite a co-incidence that I recently recorded myself playing the varnam Sri Kumara Sodaram on veena and am currently uploading the same on YouTube. Will post a link when I am done. Regarding the composer, I had learnt it from my teacher, Smt. T.R.Balamani. The notation says that the composer is Mysore Vasudevachar. Saipriya

Re: LATHANGI
I should point out that in the books Varnasagaram by T.K.Govinda Rao and Tana Varna Tarangini by B.M.Sundaram the name of the composer is not mentioned.

Prof. SRJ's outline of Lathangi (already linked in an older post on this thread) is valuable too..
