There are atleast three ragas with this name : Bangala, Shuddha Bangala , Kannada Bangala while I have not heard of Karnataka Bangala as told by balu.

Keeping this thread on the original rAgA bangALa - a very vakra scale, going up and down in both directions

Aro : S R2 G3 M1 P M1 R2 P S - the R P S is a key phrase
Avaro : S N3 P M1 R2 G3 R2 S - The R G R is the key phrase on the avarohanam

Many a music student should have started with Thyagaraja, and in particular, this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC2yNrh5gr8 (from Sanjay's own Youtube)

A very old recording of BMK singing sAkshi lEdanuchu - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CxoaHN_vM0 - as you can tell, it is really old. Having heard BMK's mature resonant voice, BMK fans might be a bit surprised.

There is a Mysore Vasudevacharya kriti, karuninchi brOva rAdA in bangAla, which has also been listed under budharanjani (authenticity of that version is debated).

So here is a bangAla version of this kriti by Dr. Nagavalli Nagaraj (who did her Ph.D on Mysore Vasudevacharya kritis). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPiXXsP85d4 - I could not find any other recording.

This is all I know about it, that it has a N3 today. I hope this is not yet another raga that once had a N2...

What is special about the N?

You got it.

Bangala was considered as a janyam of Harikambhoji and hence should have kaisiki. I haven't heard anyone singing it with kaisiki till now.
