Ramakriya (And Ramakriya vs kamavardhini vs pantuvarali)

Post by chetana »

Could anyone please share resources (audio/literature) on the raga Ramakriya? How is this different from kamavardhini and pantuvarali? (which begs the question that the two (Kamavardhini and Pantuvarali ) are subtly different. Any help with the differences between the two are also greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Ramakriya and Kasiramakriya are interchangeable I think in the asampurna system.

Kamavardhani and Panthuvarali, listen to MDR's Padmashri felicitation concert, Appa Ramabhakti, the alapana. In my view, first half was Kamavardhani and second half was Panthuvarali. A learned elder mentioned that in one, the madhyama is plain, while in the other, it has a gamaka. Somewhat like the difference between say, Bhairavi and Manji, but not as clear.

They are used interchangeably and the difference is not significant enough for them to be classed as separate ragas by some, and for others it is. Matter of semantics essentially.

Hope that helps.
