The Thyagaraja kruthi ' rendered by D.K.Pattammal given as 78 rpm record, is needed by me.
The site mentioned here gives mp3 of the kruthi rendered by many musicians.
May be useful.

And now dhanyAsi's time has come to be revived....

First up, I'm going to start with an in-depth article from Carnatica's CAC Newsletter, by proper experts - http://carnatica.in/newsletter/dhanyasinewsletter.htm

dhanyAsi is a very old rAgA, mentioned in ancient texts and far older than the mElakarta system itself (though some of these references may refer to shuddha dhanyAsi). It is far older than present day tODi, and is known to have existed in its present form 120 years before Venkatamakhin. And that makes it one of the few that survives almost as it is till this day.

Aro : S G2 M1 P N2 S
Avaro : S N2 D1 P M1 G2 R1 S

While dhanyAsi shares its notes with tODi, it has a distinct character of its own, often used for softer and more emotional phrasing with even more swinging range available on the G2 and N2 thanks to the pentatonic arOhanam. It's a delight for the nagaswaram as tODi is as well. It can give musicians a field day for brighas as well as moving moments - and can be sung in all ranges of speeds across the full range. It can touch you with its essence in a matter of seconds at one end and can be sung very elaborately (for hours in fact according to anecdotes) as well.

The unique character of this rAgA is essentially because of the gamakas possible with it - it is one of the heaviest ragas out there. It is classified as a rakti rAgA and truly has some unparalleled rakti to its credit. The N2 and G2 can also be sung plain and this gives contrasting shades of flavor for that "Aha" effect. Predominantly it is used to express devotion and pathos and absorbing moods, but is also capable of grandeur. But if dhanyAsi has touched you, it can truly squeeze a tear out of even the most stoic listener.

dhanyAsi also lends itself beautifully to rAgamAlikAs.

The avarohanam need not be as linear as it looks, the N2 and M1 can be skipped and phrases like NS-DP, and GMP-G,RS (the D1 and G2 start their slide from the N2 and M1) - this is a distinct phrase characteristic of this rAgA. S-M is also equally possible, as is S-P and even S-N on the ascent, a characteristic common to the pentatonic ragas, but the handling of S-M has an unique effect in dhanyAsi.

Being a rAgA this old and so well known, virtually every single composer has composed in it, so the repertoire out there is vast. It has been used for devarnamas, sankeertanams and bhajans and also for big heavyweight kritis and varnams. As a small example, it is one of the few ragas covered by Purandaradasa, Bhadrachala Ramadas, Muttu Thandavar, all 3 of the Holy Trinity, OVK, Subbaraya Shastri to Mutiah Bhagavatar, Koteeswara Iyer, Swati Tirunal, Papanasam Sivan and even by Pattabhiramayya. That's just a sample.

I am going to start the music flowing from yet another unusual spot on my radar. From MS Amma's excerpt of dhanyAsi in "manam kuLira" from Sakunthalai (1939) : https://youtu.be/O_Eg4h4OXiQ?t=167 - kind of all you need to know about dhanyAsi in 90 sec.

And speaking of rAgamAlika's, dhanyAsi leaves its stamp firmly in bhAvayAmi raghurAmam of Swati Tirunal (this version tuned to rAgamAlika by SSI) : https://youtu.be/oRXGs3Y0ZXQ?t=214

An absolute masterpiece of a dhanyAsi by MDR (IMHO one of the greatest rakti singers of all time) with LGJ here. The kriti is shyAma sundarAnga of Thyagaraja : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP5x6leAiB8

No mention of Thyagaraja can go without "sangeetha gnyAnamu" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBRX6O6Q4oU - MDR again

nee chittamu is another Thyagaraja special : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW6CVXooBhY - Voleti Venkateswarulu
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_pGw0V0w7M - LGJ

GNB is known to have rendered dhanyAsi elaborately in his earlier days, but to our loss, only this magnificent excerpt from a shlOka survives : https://youtu.be/AKcgQvLmV20?t=618

The Dhannamal school also had a speciality for dhanyAsi - here's talachinavAru of Subbaraya Shastri by T Brinda - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqZ4cDYYto8

And of course, Shyama Sastri's kriti meenalochana brOva - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmW0TWlx4-0

Dikshitar also has a few to his credit, but not many know of his compositions as well as Thyagaraja or Shyama Sastri - paradEvatA brhatkucAmbA - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD3EjDVzGnA (TSK)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zge3HlPx7so (Nedunuri)

mAyuranAtham - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30ZeyP_TH3k (DKP)

And speaking of sankeertanams - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxV6a1Rm_2E (BMK)

I wonder why we don't see RTPs in it more often : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTq3SIBP5uw

And here's a surprise version of Annamacharya's dEva dEvam bhajE set to dhanyAsi - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNrO1V6mw_E (Note : Annamacharya's original music is long extinct)

I have to stop with this one, I have broken my own rules (partially because I realize I will only be able to revisit a rAgA after a long time) and spammed enough already - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2F5Odj9pOjg - Oh yes, even Spencer Venugopal has composed in it.

Very often, even just a minute, is enough for mrs.mss to bring out the essence of a ragam.
truly said.
the song has absolutely wonderful lyrics..

However, I wonder if it is dhanyasi. To me it sounds more like poorvikalyani.
I may be wrong.

@27-> a veteran relative, aged 82, says, there was no ragamalika in sakunthalai film.
Each of the songs my Smt.MS in that film was associated with a mood, some happy, some sad and some exhilerating in nature's bounty.
1) aanandham en solvene - sindhubairavi
2) sukumaaraa-behag
3) enthan idathu thoLum- karaharapriya
4) pannedumnaLay- naadhanaamakriyaa
5) manam kuthoookalippathum eno -?
6) engum Nirai naadhabrammam- navroj
7) manam kulira- (?)
i submit that it is not likey to bea ragamalika and that it is not likely to have included ragams like mohanam and panthuvaraaLi, which do not sync with the mod of the lyrics.
-----
going by the notes , dhanyaasi may have the same notes as todi but no two ragams can be so different that any listener can mistake one for the other.
---------
you are the specialist but it is always a tricky thing to ascertain the ragam of old classical film songs.

sri C.Rama can perhaps throw more light..

RSR, As already stated by Srinath, the song Manam kulira is a virutham in three ragas- Panthuvarali, Mohanam and Dhanyasi. It starts from Kanavilum endanai piriya....

Respected Sir,
Thank you very much for the clarification. of ragam of ncv song.
--------------------
As for the Sakunthalai song, I remember the opening ( PanthuvaraaLi) as srinath has clarified( II had mistaken it for poorvikalyaNi). The post may then be edited to say that the song ( viruttham) is a ragamalika and the third stanza is in dhanyaasi.
to avoid confusion.
Best Regards.
