#1 Creating eduppu korvais

Post by Ranganator » 22 Mar 2017, 13:17

Hi. Can someone please explain the different types of eduppus and also explain how to end a thaniavarthanam with a korvai on a particular eduppu?

Mannarkoil in a Lec Dem ' Laya Nayam ' discussed about this. You may get full details in You tube link by the Karnatic Music Forum.

Let it be any eduppu in any tala. First we must find out if the eduppu itself is divisible by three so that we make a korvai from samam to graham. If the eduppu is not divisible by 3 then keep adding tala cycles until the eduppu becomes divisible by 3. for example adi tala 1 kaLai 1/2 aksharam (Devi neeye thunai charanam - alaimagal Kalaimagal) is not divisible by three. add one avartanam and make it 2+32 = 34 still not divisible by 3. Add one more avartanam 34+32 = 66 which is divisible by 3 and the result is 22. So any korvai that is made (irrespective of number of avartana it spans) should fall after 22/32 for the first time and that repeated for 3 times gets us to the graha of the kriti. Same rule applies to all talas all grahas.

For Rupaka Tala 2/12 eduppu kOrvais cant be achieved through arithmetic progression. With kArvais in geometric progression of 1,2 and 4 this could be achieved.
