#1 Another etymology on khanDam

Post by shankarank » 07 May 2017, 10:32

I had raised this here : viewtopic.php?f=13&t=28244&p=308369&hil ... am#p308369

I found something that may explain it : https://youtu.be/K83dNbItH0k?t=467 akhanDam - unsplit - veTTa paDAtatu. khanDa cApu always expresses as a split 2,3 - hence khanDam - ?

A nice Lecdem - as I listen thru it. Must listen for all rasikas!

More about khanDam from Thiru HaridvAramangalam : https://youtu.be/ndAOOcGMF1k?t=370. He says of all the five naDais khanDam denotes vIraccuvai or vIra rasa. Hence mallaris start with this naDai when the deities start for procession in temples.

Now the khanDam split in caturaSra nadai ( caturaSra khanDam ) makes sense for the peak sangati of cakkani rAja mArgamu exactly when rAja is sung into Arudhi + 3/4. Something I noted in viewtopic.php?f=13&t=29410.

This was explained by Chitraveena Sri Narasimhan in a lecdem on youtube (I believe it is the one on the pallavi tradition). You might want to check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQnhzpCJa68

(I fail to recall where it is exactly - apologies)

Excellent Lecture demonstration from a musical power house. kaNDittatu khaNDam is the adage that I heard - may be we can also say tuNDittatu khaNDam ;)

His disciples are one of the very fortunate ones!
