The discussion on Anuswarams - esp. the kAkali niShadam on SankarAbaraNam is interesting. A similar discussion was done in the 2015 season ( youtube upload missing) with Smt(s) RSJ, Sowmya , Radha Bhaskar, Sri Ravikiran.

Holding kAkali niShAdam (N3) plain - won't it suggest kalyani because of it's anuvadi with prati-madyama. So the principle of rAga identity will be violated won't it?

And it is interesting that she mentions occurrence of kaiSiki niShAdam(N2) in some phrases - but that could be a fleeting resonance (consonance) effect due to implied samvAditva ( or anuvAditva since M1 is anuvAdi to N2) caused by the matching gamakam at Ma (M1).

That is not the same as Harikambodhi N2 , is it? - where that is deliberately approached by holding D2 steady.

Implied samvaditva is discussed by M Subramaniam here: http://www.musicresearch.in/download.ph ... le_164.zip

Reminds me of resonance particles in particle physics whose life time is limited: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resonance ... e_physics)

Or rAhu /kEtu the lunar nodes considered as planets - too much dwelling in the zone will get poisonous.

From Sanjay's old article in his old forum:

Similarly the absence of kampita in niShAda is also significant. gAndhAra and niSAda are just characterized by nokku. This factor easily distinguishes this rAga from kalyANi, which admits of wide kampitam in these two svaras. Sometimes N admits of mild oscillation too, as in phrases like N,,SRGMGGRSN,, but even in such instances, niShAdam sounds more like an anusvara to ShaDja, though it is intoned as N
It only vindicates my point regarding swaras being "extensions" not "points". All the talk of 22 Srutis based on fret location ( as RSJ Mami quotes Veena Vid. R Venkataraman not to read it that way) - I don't buy it. Swaram - adu oru Adi antam illa pazhamanAdi.

As regards slowness vs fastness - there is a point after which you cannot "thin a film" further - there is only one atomic layer left and atoms start to fall apart. The limit of perceivability of time interval patterns will cause things to fall apart.

As regards their fear of tOdi becoming Bhashangam - only if CM goes to HM. Gamaka and it's implied samvAditva will keep it intact. Gamaka itself rests heavily on samvAditva and hence how far that stretches ( a worry of Bharat Sundar) is immaterial - since it's samvAdi counterpart will induce the primary flavor of the svara.

Bhashangam in HM makes it all look like one rAga for me - just like we cannot differentiate initially between two people from a different race/ethincity.
