I recently read about the Saagar Veena developed by Raza Kazim of Lahore. It appears a lot of research has gone into its development, and the separation of vibrating and resonating components in a non-electronic veena is novel.

Sagar Veena is a completely new addition to the existing variety of stringed Instruments for playing North Indian Classical Music (NICM), and a new invention in musical instruments altogether. The name is divided into two parts; "Sagar"

Thanks Vainika. It says a lot of good things as objectives but I did not get an idea on how they are actually accomplished. May be the geodesic shape provides for better resonance. I want to hear how it sounds but I could not find an audio link at that site.

There are at least ten recordings of his daughter Noor Zehra Kazim http://evolutionary-mentology.com/sipa/?p=154

I recommend the kEdAr clip http://evolutionary-mentology.com/sipa/ ... a-alap.mp3

Thanks Ramki. I am listening to kEdAr now.

It sounds wonderful. It does sound like Veena with a deeper tone. It may not sound like too much novelty for CM, but it may for HM. Chithra veena artists may want to give it a try.

What are your impressions?

Hope to listen to the clips today evening.

Oh, and nice to know that there are some civilized people still living in Pakistan. Musicians are always better than mullahs.

Thanks for posting this clip. The only word that I can use to describe my feeling after listening to this clip is "sukoon".

When I listen to such clips, I am always left with the question is it possible to sing like this or is it something inherent and unique to an instrumental sound. I have not found an answer yet.

Thanks again,
Thenpaanan

I am glad this very old thread is resurrected. So far as it comes over YouTube, that is such remarkable and beautiful tone. I'd love to experience an actual concert
