See how Kulkarni sa'ab's favorite rAg (kEdAr) sounds in the genre of 'indipop': the hum kO man kI shakti dEnA track.

VJ,
Yes, he sings, whcih in itself is not very tough to understand.
But, what did you think of the track? - I assume you have heard Vani Jairam's original for the movie 'Guddi'.

I have heard his brother L shankar sing RTP in Kapi. You can go into meditation while listening to it. It is available online.
He goes into immpossible high pitch.

I heard one of the tracks where LS ssings. I think it is in Hamir Kalyani. It is not very impressi.ve - he should stick to playing the violin.

he is horrible.
he just changed the meaning of the song,
first time he sings "khud kyon jai kare?" instead of khud ko jai kare
second time he sings "khud ki jai kare"
first one totally changes the meaning
second one is grammatically incorrect given the context..
how can he be so careless and leave that on tape.
I am not impressed.

of course I like the guddi version, which incidentally starts from the middle, as jaya bhaduri arrives in the middle of the song :)

Well, Mohan and VJ,
I feel a lot better now, becuase I thought I was being very partisan when I felt that he was 'awful'! My wife, who had not heard the track, heard me muttering uncomplimentary things about it to myself, and told me that I was getting 'too picky'!

To clarify, like Mohan, I think his violin tracks are good! I like some of his 'fusion'/jugalbandhi experiments. My reaction was to the singing...I liked his daughter's track better.
The track was indeed hamIr kalyANI or kEdAr...

I was commenting on the vocals too. Since its a standard school prayer in indian schools (well at least was in DTEA New Delhi back in the 80s ) maybe he was trying to immitate the average school kid (including wrong made up words ) :D
