---------------------------------------------------------
This concert was organized on the occasion of vidwan Palani subramania pillai yearly annual centenary . I have attended few concerts in the last few years, kudos to all the organizers (ArunPrakash, mannArkoil balAji and b.gaNapathirAman), especially for their sumptuous free lunch that was served between this concert and the previous TNS Krishna's concert
Smt Prema rangarAjan was Accompanied amrithA murali - violin,PB KrishnamAchAri - mridangam and H .SivarAmakrishnan - ghatam
1. shree mahAgaNapathE (S) - AbhOgi - NS rAmachandran
2. dharmasamvardhiNi (N S )- madhyamAvati - MD
neraval for 6 minutes in the lines "mAdhava sOdhari sundari madhyamAvati sankari"
swaras for 5 minutes
3A. RTP in shanmughapriyA
rAgam for 12 minutes in two rounds with 4 minutes intermediate violin return
tAnam for 7 minutes
pallavi + swararAgamaliga (shanmughapriyA + malayAmArutham?? + hamsAnandi + madhukowns?? + mOhanam), for 17 minutes
3B. tani for 13 minutes
4.thillAnA "pavana thanaya bhaktha" -vasantA?? - ?
Since this concert had started late , it just was a brief one from 2 pm to 3:35 pm. Smt premA being a disciple of Late sulochana paTTabhirAman always has a very high classical touch. But somehow today I did not get that brilliance .
Her start in AbhOgi was just good , possibly the only reason is her voice did not warm up much to take this expressive AbhOgi. A good to very good madhyamAvati was sung quite well , especially liked her neraval.
ShanmughapriyA is one rAga that is born more for RTP , possibly I felt Smt premA could have charged more , her AlApanai and pallavi was very well dwelt .The tAnam was just good, her rAgamAliga swaras were just good ,could have been more well rounded.
One of the reasons this concert was just good was perhaps due to a mediocre support by the mridangist , at many many touch points the rhythm did not gel that well with the vocalist .The ghatam artist played quite good and his patterns were more well rounded.Amritha's violin playing was very good , her returns were precise and sharp.
Overall just a good concert.
I had just heard the last tukkada(palimpa thamasamA) of TNS krishna , he sang beautifully had a touch of 1980's shri tns there. Can some one post that concert list , I am told he sang also a rtp in tOdi??
