Please listen to the song Manasa Sanchara re song sung by Sri. BMK. The link is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN-IWHIWrh0

The song is sung in the Madhyama sruti and the raga is surely not 'Sama' as reported by the contributor. The Raga sounds to be Rag Patdeep but changes at the 2nd charanam 2nd line "sevaka jana mandira mandare" where it sounds like Charukesi (D1 note is prominent here)

The lyrics are as under;
Pallavi:
Maanasa Sanchara re
Brahmani Maanasa Sancharare
Charanam 1:
Madasikhi pinchalankruta chikure
Mahaneeya kapola vijitha mukure

Charanam 2:
Sri Ramani Kucha Durga Vihare
Sevaka jana mandira mandare

Charanam 3:
Paramahamsa mukha Chandra chakore
Paripooritha murali ravadhare

Radhe Krishna

Sri. VKRji , yes your excellant exposure to music is applaudable. You are right, this song is having the raga chaya of both Patdeep and Charukesi. May be, some new raga created by MBK ?, who is one of the rare musicians , born genius . Now let us wait to hear from other experts.

Kindly excuse me for this post of mine.I am very much deficient in analysing the raaga of a song threadbare,as i have only a basic knowledge of raagas, and not the nuances, vakramsetc of the raagas. but the fact remains that the sobreity, the feelingof a sort of submission to the Almighty cannot be obtaioned even if it is rendered in thoosand raagas, other than sama.GOILALITHA

Yes Gobilalitha, I too fully agree with your views. The rag Syama has so much influence to travel freely through the mind of any listener. The raga gives instant- melting effect of the mind/soul.

Decades ago when BMK visited Canada, I requested him to sing Manasa sancharare at a concert to which he responded that he sings it in a raga very different from the one that I was expecting and then I promptly said that I ddn't want it. Now I know what he meant!
