This composition from the rAmanATakam details the conversation between kaikEyi and manthara - when the latter goes to the queen's chambers to give her the news that rAma is to be crowned king, and point out the potential pitfalls that could ensue. manthara starts out by saying that this will establish rAma's supremacy over bharata, and by association over kaikEyi herself. This composition, where kaikEyi defends the choice of rAma (his by right of his valor as well as primogeniture), highlights to me manthara's skill as a negotiator - her skill in making kaikEyi do an about-turn, and assume a position that was diametrically opposite to her first stance.

Or, are you stupid enough to think that I (nAn tAn) am some (enna) block-headed dolt (maTTiyO) to lap up what you say? I will cut (veTTi pODuvEn) you (unnai) up if you do not shut up!

Ravi, eTTiyO - could also mean is he 'eTTikkAy' (a bitter vegetable?) - contrasts with sugar/ cakkarai kaTTi!

Came across a nux vomica tree during my vacation this weekend. Attaching some pictures, including close-ups of the fruit and the nut!

Were these pictures taken in BengaLUru or other place in Karnataka?
eTTikkAy (nux vomica seed) was used in ancient times as a homeopathic medicine to develop immunity against selected poisons--even snake venom. Homeopathy depends on the principle "like kills like"--i.e., minute doses of a drug could treat a disease that would appear in a healthy person if the same drug is given.
