Subha Ganesan : Sri Kapali Fine Arts : 18.12.2009

Melakkaveri Thyagarajan, MadipakkamSuresh.

Samininne- Panthuvarali Varnam, Adi- Shatkala Narasayya

Ekadhantham - bilahari - M.Chapu- M.Dikshithar -{ S }

Padmanabha Pahi Hindolam- Adi- SwathiTirunal

Kalaharana- SudhaSaveri- Rupakam- Thyagaraja- {R S}

Edhayya gathi- Chalanattai- Adi- Kotteswara Iyer

Jesinadella -Thodi- Adi- Thyagaraja {R S N}

Karunaimadhi- Ragamalika- Adi- ??

Subha Ganesan showed her potential and strength in her concert for kapali fine arts. The kalpanaswaras for bilahari was very fluent and methodical. Padmanabhapahi was rendered very well.

The noteworthy item was Sudhdha saveri alapana, the sancharas were brisk and crafted impressively, but at times it was racy with superfluous fast phrases in few places.

THodi was the main item , the raga alapana was remarkable in an leisurely and elaborate way.

There was combination of brigas and gamakas,

If she had chosen krithis like Gadhdhanuvariki, Endhukkudhayaradhura, ninnenamminanu it would have been more apt after such a detailed rendition of THodi,

Jesinadhella the one kalai krithi was too short and doesnt sound appropriate after a lengthy alapana..

The Niraval and swaras were presented in a well refined manner.

Thyagarajans thodi and suddhdha saveri was good and madipakkam suresh presented a very neat thani.

The mike system was very poor at the auditorium and most of the time there was no clarity in the voice due to excessive echo and audio imbalance.

overall a well sructured good concert.

Only one M2 usage.
Rare to notice kAlaharaNamElara being sung with rAg and swara. Most of times, the kriti is sung as just a pass by.
IMO Jesina is a good selection.
PadmanAbha of ST is very rarely heard.
Mixture of tAlams also.

yes, padmanabhapahi and kalaharana are very nice krithis which are not used in concerts often, can anybody say whose composition is that last ragamalika. the lyrics was catchy.

It's not even sung all that often. ;)
