Madurai Mani Iyer Centenary Celebrations

I am starting this new thread to co-ordinate various efforts I have been involved in celebrating the centenary in particular my efforts to bring up a commemorative 2 dvd ebook type volume to be freely distributed on the occasion in two places. First it will be released & distributed during the Cleveland Aradhana in 2012; Again it will be re-released in Chennai during the Global Music Forum of Cleveland Aradhana which annually has been holding a MMI Remembrance Function.
A number of persons have already have gotten involved in various ways. My aim is to come up with the COMPREHENSIVE product. I request members to use this forum or email me their suggestions, comments. I hope to button up the efforts by fall so I can go on to producing the two dvd effort. Dear Ravimandalam,
Thanks for your well thought out suggestions expressed in your post under vidwans&vidhushis segment elsewhere.
Let me assure you that anyone who had anything to do with MMI in any capacity is being approached as our aim is to REPRESENT as many of the aspects of MMI as possible.

Reg. Book etc there are two CONCRETE THINGS BEING ATTEMPTED:

1) Sri Charukesi the famous writer- Especially in the Music area- is writing a book on MMI which hopes to address
the multi-faceted life& contributions of MMI & we hope to release it in Cleveland & Chennai on the occasion of MMI Centenary Celebrations..
2) A TWO DVD set on MMI- His life, Music, Views, Analyses etc- is currently scheduled to be released in Cleveland in April during the celebrations there & CHENNAI ON oct 28,2012 during the centenary celebrations. These will be distributed FREE on those occasions. The AIM is to let MMI REPRESENT himself thru' his words, others who are competent& knew him well, as well as excerpts from his concerts.The first DVD will be an ebook type presentation & the second one will just consist of excerpts as well as full concerts throughout his concert career......VKV

Dear Sri VKV,
Many thanks for the information. Indeed, I look forward to this publication as well as the set of DVDs during the centenary celebrations in Chennai in Oct 2012. Likewise, similar publications on two other giants, Sri Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer and Sri TR Mahalingam would be welcome. Of course, I must confess a personal bias for MMI, MVI and TRM - they are my heroes in the music world - doubtless there are other great vidwans who deserve to be written about by competent and knowledgeable writers.
