The sumanasa foundation is promoting youngsters to the concert . This is the first time I went to hear this young flute vidwan Jayanth, incidentally the entire team was new to me . I was bit late to hear the second half of the varnam which i think should be ninnu kOri , there was a bit kanakku swaras in varnam . The artist then ventured then to a brief alApana of chakravAkham, krithi was quite well done with a dash of swaras that was quite aesthetic with a dose of kanakku there too.

A rare kokilAdhwani was quite well done, the blow was bit breezy and fast not heavy and then he ventured to a brief rAga sketch of sArangA where the contrast was bit heavy blowing and he was quite good there. The best two was the next two , sAveri was the first krithi that had more emphasis of sowkhyam quite natural to the contours of sAveri it was very good and out popped a very rare patnam krithi.

Reetigowlai was very leisurely and it was really the best of the concert. The contrast of a racy paNtuvarALi was bit towards the average ,the number was well presented more in the first half. nalinAkAnthi was not as fast as a typical vocalist speed as a premain filler and he bought a touch of bit meditative nAdham and I liked it for a change.

The main was the grand tOdi ,tOdi apperared quite grand more in the alApanai and the krithi was bit little too short and the swaras were just good. He was playing the medium sized flute for the entire concert excepting for the darbAri where he took the longer flute and I loved the darbAri it was very soothing (there is always a magical touch for flute and kAnada or darbAri combination). He then went to the instrumentalist favorite raghuvamsa with a lot of fingering there for this krithi . I think the last was the jAvali of shuruTTi

Among the accompanist I liked the violinist a lot he had nice azhuttam and quite a high sense of aesthetics his replies were precise . The percussion was not consistent throughout , the kanjirA player was bit rough play and the mridangist was quite good .The tani was just a plain one nothing notable .

Few shortcomings for jayanth :
-----------------------------
1.alApana alApana alApana , he should have gone for atleast one detailed one before main , the concert suffered a lot because of his alApana avoidance.

2. He announced songs that were not straightforward in the senselike he announced the todi , pantuvarAli and skipped the reetigowlai . But he forgot to announce kokiladhwani and javali especially kOkiladhwani was bit tough to spot , i guess he just forgot. Of course this point is just minor

Overall a good to very good concert.

Thanks for the review, Rajesh! I badly wanted to attend this one because flute concerts are so hard to come by! But the timings clashed totally with Smt Kalyani Ganesan's and I had to go there, since I had been suffering from live-vintage-CM-concert deficiency!

Thanks Rajeshnat for the link. I have heard Smt. K. Vandna couple of times and as the reviewer mentioned she is very good. She is the disciple of Smt. Manda Sudharani and torch bearer of that tradition !

And the punchline in the above review-
"That talent in classical music lies even beyond the horizons of Chennai was a revealing factor of this series" !!

We should also thank Sri. T.M. Krishna for organising these upcoming artists concerts.

We appreciate TMK for this, and his students for their work.
The young performers coming from different states is a plus. Chennai, the CM center can now boast of integration too in nurturing CM's future vidvAns and vidUshis. At RasikAs, we may see less of territorial complaints about recognition, I hope ;)
All the performers sound promising. What better place to perform at than at Ragasudha hall! Looking forward to the next set of concerts of other young hopefuls, three months from now.
