Permit Lady musicians also at Navarathri Mandapam.
It will be very nice if ladies could also able to recite or sing at Navarathri Mandapam at Trivandrum. Now we aarae in the advanced stage. It is my humble request and suggestion that ladies also should permit to perform their music at Navarathri Mandapam, except three days in each and every month after periods, it is also very pathetic to see handicapped are neglected for this function in the name of andaviswasam or mooda nambikkai. I have requested this to Kerala Government, social welfare and suitable action is expecting.

Parassala Ponnammal was the first woman to perform at the Navarathri Mantapam some 4 or 5 years back.
Last year saw Amrutha Venkatesh sing there.
By the way, the restriction was there for evening concerts only.
In the morning concerts, women musicians have performed at the Navarathri Mantapam.

sramesh,
i have a humble suggestion.
instead of writing about these artist(s) in these fora, you might choose to send the resume of these people, to the various organisations that exist for them to consider. There are many many talented people in the world and it is just impossible for any particular organisation to be aware of every possible person who is capable, and publicly cribbing and writing on such fora is not going to lead u anywhere.

What is the story here? Do they as a rule do not allow handicapped people to perform? I have not heard that before.

VK,
I think that part of his complaint has to do with women singers.

Re: Permit Lady musicians also at Navarathri Mandapam.
if its about lady musicians, then that particular tradition has been shown the door.
Starting with none less than Smt Ponnammal, there are other ladies too who have performed last year.
about differently-abled (keeping with the TN govt's rule to call them so and not as disabled or handicapped) people, does such a rule exist at all?
i see it more as some kind of publicity for somebody or a personal rant..
well, whatever.. i m sick of personal rants in the site..

There is no issue here. I feel this is clearly a sincere effort to promote a particular handicapped lady musician.
But there is no need to highlight physical disability. Quality will surely win.

As this thread is based on an entirely false premise, couldn't it just be closed?
By the way, sramesh... it is also, I think another false premise that the Kerala government is in any way involved. I think the entire event, and indeed the whole temple, is under the control of the Travancore Royal family.

Should we continue the "royal" terminology anymore? Royalty was abolished long ago in India. The ex-royal family still has the privileges of wealth and property. They continue certain traditions from the past---such as the navarAtri maNDabam (maNTapam??) kacchEris.

Is it one person's name or a list of rulers of a dynasty starting from Sri Padmanabha and ending with Sri Jang? If one name, how does he manage it in the first page of his passport. Royal problems, eh..?Pratyaksham Bala wrote:THE LAST RULING MAHARAJAH OF TRAVANCORE WAS:

It is one long name alright. In those days of royalty they gave the titles such as "rAjAdi rAja rAja mArthANDa rAja gambIra xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.."
As for passport his royal seal was passport enough. The British administration prepared special documents for them to visit England or other countries.

And the one whom we know from that family tree does not wish to be called prince but simply by his name. His ancestor might have had a very long name but he did not need a passport. Today, his descendant has to abide by rules just like us and his name fits in nicely in a passport--just Rama Varma --whereas some of our own names are much longer than his!
This irrelevant thread might continue, just as season concerts are followed by canteen food. Are there going to be questions as to where one can go to eat inTtiruananthapuram after the concerts where you can find the best iDlis? Then, we can move the thread to the lounge. It seems to be the natural progression of discussions nowadays

I wasnt sure if MC mama had performed at the mandapam. If he has, which I believe he must have, given his seniority and vidwat, then the belief that disabled ppl cannot perform isnt valid.ragam-talam wrote: I believe violin vidwan Sangeethakalanidhi M Chandrasekharan has performed at the navarathri mandapam.
hence, it is indeed talent and music quality that prevails obviously..
