It was a nice concert with a good list. The Shanmukhapriya Krithi provided an emotive start. Have not heard this Krithi and the Kalyani one before (the latter except a short rendition once by Chitravina Ravikiran, I think in a lec dem). The Khamas piece had a nice round of Swarams with the higher octave being given an extensive exposition. The violinist's responses here were very good too. Thaye Yashodha, that was begun at the Anupallavi and included the last Charanam, was delivered well. The Kalyani Krithi was announced to be the Dhyana Krithi from the Kamakshi Navavaranam series.
The Madhyamavathi was given an elaborate treatment with an Alapanai lasting for 12 minutes. There was a good balance of both leisurely Gamakam based phrases and the Brigas. The small Krithi was sung well again with a detailed Neraval (haven't heard a Neraval for this before) at the line Chinnan Chiru Padangal followed by Swarams. The Tani that followed was very good with Anirudh reproducing every Korvai and almost every pattern that the senior Mrudangam artiste played.
The concert concluded with a nice Sindubhairavi Thillana.
Overall a fine concert with a good Madhyamavathi and a well chosen list.

Personally i feel that the krithi is quite big and has pallavi anupallavi and charanam and also madhyamakalam.Sathej wrote: The small Krithi was sung well again with a detailed Neraval (haven't heard a Neraval for this before) at the line Chinnan Chiru Padangal followed by Swarams. Well, maybe just a personal opinion. I have not heard it being elaborated in detail as often as say Ramakatha or Palinchu Kamakshi.HarishankarK wrote: Why do you feel Aadaathu Asangaathu vaa is a small krithi ?? Yeah that's sad ! As the krithi Aadaathu Asangaathu has a lot of potential for elaboration. I understand that you only mean 'not frequently heard as main' by saying small.
Most of the tamil and Kannada krithis have enough potential for elaborate treatment but dunno why only the time tested Telegu songs are elaborated - creative limitations !!

TNS, Guru of Gayathri Gireesh has rendered this song as the main song in many concerts. In one concert in Venugopala swamy Temple, Malleswaram in the nineties it was a mindboggling one. His nerval at chinnam chiru padangal left us spellbound. That concert will be remembered for ever by those who attended it. In Tamil Isai Sangham, in the concert of exclusive Oothukadu Kritis, he sang this as the main song. .
