About the Artist:
Smt. Bagyalakshmi Chandrasekharan is a senior and seasoned vainika from bangalore. Hailing from a music loving family, she was initiated into Carnatic Vocal Music at the tender age of six and Veena at the age of nine, under the tutelage of Guru Mudikondan Sri Narayanaswamy Ayyar (disciple of Sangeeta Kalanidhi Mudikondan Sri Venkatarama Ayyar and Kumbakonam Sri Rajamani Sastrigal). She has been performing since the age of 12 and has given concerts all across India and abroad
Smt. Bagyalakshmi is a gold-medallist in Music, graduating with a First Rank from the University of Madras (1972). She is a recipient of Government of India Scholarship for Advanced Studies and Training in Veena (1975-77).
She has received several prestigious awards and is a senior A-grade artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan. She is a panelled artiste of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), Government of India.
She is an artiste who established herself with firm conviction in tradition coupled with aptitude for integrating innovative and interesting aspects of music into her rendition. With excellent grasp of the raga system, she is known for expounding the beauty and grandeur of the ragas on the Veena. Her virtuosity on the instrument, notably playing swaraprastharas with clarity, facility and precision, earned several accolades. She received wide appreciation for her matured, chaste and soothing rendition with a fine blend of sahityabhava, with the gayaki’s style of playing this instrument.
