rumAlu in kannaDa is a long piece of fine cotton with a small border in gold.
The cloth is around 3 meters in length and will not be wide. Mysore rumAlu
or"pEta" as we call it is worn by the men of the Mysore royal family during
ceremonial occasions.It is wound around the head .
In this devaranAma yashode has dressed up krishna with a rumAlu
in such a way, that she has left a length of cloth which is dangling in the back.[this is not left loose usually]
phaNege is "to the forehead"
banNisi is just a glorification of the deed.

Mrs. Savitri, do the song lyrics actually describe that this rumAlu cloth is left dangling - how do you know - since you say that is unusual? Is it left dangling for a reason in Krishna's case?

In the first caranam it is mentioned "cunga biTTu"
"cunga" means some length of cloth at the end of the fabric,
In this case it is the rumAlu.Yashode has left it loose,for the
reason that krishna is a little kid.The loose end looks nice
when krishna is running around.
When elders wear the rumAlu,it sits on the head firmly.
You might have seen the photographs of the royal family
of erstwhile Mysore state.
"bittu" means left wihout being tied.

The kannada used in the song has some old words, which I do not know the exact translation of, but I would like to translate the song roughly, as I have understood it.

Why do you get so angry with us, when we tell you about krishna, afterall you are the one with the naughty son?

C1: saNNa rumAlu kaTTi, cunga biTTu, haNege banNisi kastUri tilavaniTTu
You tie a small kerchief, leaving a small trail of cloth and paint his forehead with a kasthuri thilaka
ciNNikOlu ceNDu buguri kaiyaliTTu posa beNNeya mellu hOgendu kaLuhi biTTu
You give a small stick, ball and top to his hand, and you send him off to eat newly made butter

2: karedu kaiyalli ciTTe bella koTTu cikka haraLu kallugaLanne arisi koTTu
You call him and give him a jaggery cube and sort out fine gemstones for him
vArigeya puLLarannu mADi koTTu gOpi Uranella suliyendu kaLuhi koTTu
You make him so many sweet dishes, Gopi, and send him out to run through the whole village

3: hogendu rangana kaLuhi koTTu gOpi Aga bhOgangaLella tumbi koTTu
You are the one who sends out Krishna, and also gives him so many luxuries
nigama gOcaranemba pesaraniTTu gOpi purandara viTTalanna beLesi biTTu
You name him " one who is not easily visible to the eyes" and bring up Purandhara Vittala

Thanks, Mrs. Savitri - cunga bittu - **almost** sounds like "thonga vittu" (left hanging) in Tamil... which actually fits in nicely with the rumAlu head-gear description as given! But then Tamil and Kannada do have many close sounding words with similar meanings.

S-P: I think Sri purandara dAsaru uses his mudra/aMkita in this composition as a refernce to the almighty - vishNu as viTThala, and not to himslef (Sri MD does the same when he uses guruguha).
