Sanjay at Kartik fine arts (9.12.2010)

Yesterday Sanjay performing at Kartik Fine Arts was at one of his bests, the packed audience at the Narada Gana Sabha, was I am sure amply delighted at the wonderful opening concert of Sanjay for the December Season 2010. A rakthi laiden concert, as if he has strained out the essence of the ragas and gifted it to the rasikas.. God bless him for many more such renditions and many more blissful moments for us, the lucky listeners.
His accompanists were
Nagai Muralidharan: violin
Patrish Kumar : Mrudangam
Sree Rangam Kannan: Morsing

Song list
(1) Sharanagada: Katanakudoohalam: Adi:?
(2) Re Re Maanasa Bhajare: Nattai:roopakam: Ceyyoor Chengalvaraaya Saastri
(3) Mundu vEnuka iru: darbar:aadi: Tyagaraja
(4) Muruga muzhumadi pazhikkum Arumuga: Saaveri:P.Sivan:Neraval Swaram at ”un perumai pugazha taramo...’(this was simply superb)
(5) Ozhukkam uyirinum Ombapadum—Kuntalavarali
(6) RTP- Charukesi- misra chapu -----” charukesa jadadra sambo chadrasekhara...”
(7) Virutttam- Adum mayilaai uruveduthu--- followed by Karpagambikai nee allavo—behag-Papanasam Sivan
(8) Tillana- Dwijavanthi-Adi
(9) Pavamana

Darbar was sung very well and even better was Saveri.. with every sanchara squeezing out the essence of the raga little by little, extra embellishments not heard often could be experienced. Then followed the wonderful and endearing charukesi that was laiden with many many “Bale and Aha moments”.. The other artists on the stage gave in their best to make the concert a grand success.
The concert lasted for 2 hours and 10 minutes; I wish he had sung longer.. Never mind.. for many more concerts lined up this december..

Opening concert of the MASTER for Season2010.

The highlights:

1. The kalpanaswarams for Nattai were just a torrential flow. AMAZING!
2. The alapana and the soulful Saveri krithi of Sivan

The drawbacks:

1. A 2hr concert can never do justice to the die-hard fans of the MASTER
2. An RTP which was just about to take-off being abrubtly grounded.

Being a die-hard fan of the MASTER I am only disappointed at the duration of the concert. Waiting for the next full-blown 3hr concert !!!

The delay was because of main artist and violinist(.Sri.sanjay and Sr.Nagai Muralidharan both )were confered awards by Thyagabrahma Gana Sabha (vani mahal)on that evening.
Both of them came for the concert directly after getting the award.
Sri.Patri. Satishkumar and Sri .SriRangam Kannan also gave an excellant thani.
Another highlight was Thirukural (Ozukkam) adhikaram as a filler.
The behag virutham was soulful and moving..
Over all i enjoyed this concert as well as the previous one of Malaldi Brothers.
Evn though season has just started the hall ,both ground floor and balcony was full, this was on a working day.

Regardless of who was/were responsible for the delayed start, the organisers owe it to the audience ( paying or free ) to explain and apologize for the delay. Such delays are nowadays taken for granted ! Of course, many times the rasikas also expect such delays and arrive late !!
