It was a great concert to a packed hall with responsive audience that created good ambience. Smt. Vijayalakshmy started off with an outline of Hamsadwani and the varnam by Manambuchavadi Venkatasubbaiyyar. Following this was a song not often heard – Gopalaka Pahimam in Revagupti. The Kalpana Swarams in Nekkurugi at the charanam line – ‘Sikkil singaravela Guhane…’ had interesting eduppu. After a detailed and beautiful Kalyani came the unhurried rendering of Bhara Re Chitha. The neraval and swarams were at the Charanam phrase – “Devi Shaktibijodbhava Maatrkarna Sharirineem”.

Vade Venkatadri was an apt interlude before the RTP in Kaapi. The lyrics of the pallavi were “Narayana Nalinayata lochana pahi pahi srilakshmi” and the beauty of the ragam interspersed with the lyrics made it a brilliant presentation. The Ragamalika in the pallavi was rendered in Valaji , Begada ,Chandrakauns and Hamsanadham and the violinist Smt. Sandhya Srinath played beautiful versions of all 4 ragams and kaapi , enhancing the overall beauty of the pallavi. This was followed by the thaniavarthanam

The thukkada part of the concert consisted of an Ashtapadi in Bhupali, followed by a Divya Nama Sankeerthanam of Thyagaraja in Surati – ‘Pathiki Haarathire’. The song was rendered from the anupallavi ‘Ati Mrudutara . . . ‘ . The concert concluded with the Mangala Slokam “Kalyaanaath Bhudhagaathraya” in Madyamavathi on Lord Venkatesa. The accompanists provided excellent support all through the concert, and the Thaniavartanam being played at the RTP was unique, compared to the more often heard Thaniavartanam after the main keertana (Kalyani here).
