Concert lists that were pending since many weeks

Post by rbharath »

Dr R Hemalatha fiddle concert at Music Club IIT Madras

sahana varnam
gam ganapathe
sadhinchane
suajana jeevana
saundara rajam
niravathi sukhada
enthuku peddala

The alapanai of Arabhi and khamAs were very educative and showed the essential phrases. The shankarabaranam was majestic. The highlight of the program was the commentary by Dr Hemalatha, where she mentioned the differences in handling of ragas by each of the trinity and contemperory usages. She highlighted the special old-school phrases which are not all that oft heard in concerts these days.

-----------
Lakshmi Sreeram, Music Club IIT Madras

Sri Rama Navami spl concert

slokam
jaya jaya jaya janakikantha
rama bhakti samrajyam
emayya rama
ra ra rajeevalochana rama
kanamum maravathe
dasaratham - nattakuranji
rama rama guna seema

The concert was well rendered. The alapanai of mOhanam was very heavy and classical. The main simmendra madhyamam was very enjoyable also.

--------------
V Sumithra at Nada Inbam

Dikshitar Jayanthi concert

slokam
vathapi ganapathim
sri nathadi guruguho
arunachala natham
hastivadanaya
pranathathiharaya
sri vidya rajagopalam
sri kamalambhikayah param nahi re

It was the day after Smt Kalpakam Swaminathan had left us. One was totally engrossed in sorrow and with each MD kriti rolling one after another, it was just not possible to keep oneself composed.

The concert was filled with gems of MD. The elaborations of mAyAmALavagauLa were good. The AlApanai of navarOj was very interesting to listen to. The main bhairavi was absolutely esoteric.

------------
Sowmya - MS Ananthakrishnan - Poongulam Subramanian - Anirudh Athreya

concert on the occasion of receiving the Distinguished Alumnus Award
CLT IIT Madras

panchamAtanga - malahari - rUpakam - MD
gurulEkha - gauri manOhari - kANDa cApu - T (S)
Anandamaya manavE - jyOtisvarUpiNi - Adi - WVB (R)
annapUrNE visAlAkshi - sAmA - Adi - MD
ODi bArayyA - bhairavi - misra cApu - PD (RNST)
tiruvai paNindu - mAND - Adi - PS
nI nAma rUpamulaku - saurAshTram - Adi - T

A good concert. The submain jyOtisvarUpiNi with a very rare kriti was very nice. The main bhairavi was enjoyable as well.

-------------------
R Vedavalli - Usha Rajagopalan - B Ganapathiraman - N Guruprasad

Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Vidwat Samajam
Thyagaraja Jayanthi Festival

mOkshamu galadA
suguNamulE (NS)
vAcAmagOcaramE - kaikavasi
ceDE buddhi (RN)
tanamI tanE - bhUshAvaLi
rAma kathA suthA (RNS)
tani
srI rAma rAma rAmA
ghaNTA mangaLam

The concert was so moving and touching to the heart. The neraval and svarams in chakravAkam were so absorbing. The submain aTANA was absolutely educative and filled with routine classical music of the old guard. The main madhyamAvati was awesome, to put it in a word.

been a long while since one posted anything anywhere, for reasons that one does not wish to look back.

Above are a few concerts that were lying as drafts in one's blog-box for many weeks now. One apologies for the incomplete information in all of them, but its been so long since the lists were made and it is going to be very tough for one to write them with the same flavour as one would have, had one sat down and finished them drafts promptly. One has hence chose to post whatever was jotted down as such, without meddling with it much.

My apologies for the bad job yet again.

It is nice to see you online again, and nice to be reminded of concerts I saw, and to reflect on those I did not.

Bharath,
It's always good to read reviews and lists. A bit late, so what?
For some reason, we don't see many reviews these days. I'm sure there are many like me who look forward to reviews. Please keep them coming folks, wherever you are!

For some reason, we don't see many reviews these days.
I think that two of our major reviewers have either been unable to attend as many concerts and/or been too occupied with other things to write them up.

Nice to see Purandaradasa's ODi bArayyA rendered as a main item by Sowmya. This is a nice composition - one of the group of 9 krithis classified as a Purandaradasa's navaratna krithi-s. I have seen it used as a dance item as well.

I still remember Radha Jayalakshmi render this so wonderfully in the 70s/80s in Bangalore ....really a very nice song.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see ODi bArayya in the middle of the song list!
