thanks manjunath,

mInAkSi-suta, was a talented composer, whose lovely picturesque song describing anantapadmanAbha, with all the gods rallying around for a group photo, took Chembai's fancy and he sang 'rakSa mAm sharanAgatam', the gambhIra-nAttai piece, in every other concert..

His piece on gaNEsha, 'VighnarAja shrIvinAyaka' in suddha-dhanyAsi, is a very original treatment of the raga, and was quite popular in bangalore-mysore, till the last decade..

It's a pleasure to create this thread.

It's interesting to write that Chembai got back his voice after singing " Rakshamam" @ Guruvayur.
That's how Chembai must have been so much attached to this song and his rendering is so nice.

This song has 9 charanams although only one charanam is sung.

This composer has made songs on Thyagaraja; the three Acharyas- Shankara;Ramanuja & Madhwa.

A kannada song on Shanmukha in Shanmukapriya is interesting(Thiruchendur is mentioned in the lyrics).

Will be posting the lyrics one by one for detailed analysis by rasikas.

There are couple of songs on Lord Ganesha. One in Begada & one in Mohanam.

Thanks for the link.
Very Melodiously rendered by Ganesh & Kumaresh( Vocal/Violin). Vocal rendition was required to convey the new song which is not yet become popular.

But for "krishna nee begane" & "Jambupathe(MD)" not many songs are heard in Yamuna Kalyani.
I will check up the notation & will come back.

Sorry, I had not seen this POST for quite sometime.

Thanks, all!
Wonder where his family lived in BengaLuru. We lived in the Cantonment, Ulsoor area until I was six. Bhajanais were and are (?) an integral part of the community. Then a mere child, I still carry the memory of those evenings (including a scene when one of the singers got into a trance). Wonder if he was there too!

arasi- My office and quarters are very close to Ulsoor( Near Indiranagar). We have moved around Ulsoor area quite well.
Even as a child u must have visited the famous 'Odakattur Mutt" adjacent to Ulsoor Lake. Here lot of religious discourses; Maha Shivarathri Music festival and spiritually related activities takes place.. The famous Gokulashtami Music Festival used to be performed in this venue only . (The venue has been shifted to NGEF layout from the past few years.). I have attended many nice concerts in this venue.

He was staying at guttahalli which is near sankey road and kumarapark west
where guttahalli palace was situated.
I happened to be a resident at Malleswaram nearby when I was working with Hindustan Aeronautics
Whose Head office was Situated at Express towers.
I had no occassion to know about him at that time.

Does 'Meenakshi sutha' / 'Lalitha dasar' denote the same composer?

I am really glad to note the interest in this lesser know composer. Meenakshi Suta kritis were popularised by Ms. Abhayam Raju, she had formed a group called shruti ranjani . I remember concerts where ragam alapanai swaraprastharam was done for his kritis by this group. Mr. Udupa also translated these kritis with notations in kannada.

Just found out another rare meaning of kaurava is fenugreek with its white flowers..
So kaurava dhavaLAbha would mean radiant like white fenugreek flowers!

Rsachi Ji. you are really very quick!
It may be *gaura DhavalABham*
*having a dazzling white complexion*
*gaura* means yellow too.
In SrI Muttuswamy Deekshitar's kriti in Goula Ragam,
*Sri maha gaNapatiravatumAm*the line *gaura varNa vasana DharO*
can be found.
