Balaji sir, thanks for the recording... One of the things that struck me as I watched the clip was that this is a good example of playing mridangam "to the song" (as they say in Tamil, "paatukku vaasikardhu"). Your acute sense of the song bhAvam and sAhityam clearly comes across and makes the accompaniment that much more enjoyable. Thanks again for the clip.

Balaji,

Thank you for the youtube link. I have one observation which I would like to bring to the attention of the artists. Please pay close attention to how the stage is set up. The youtube video had something right in front of the mridangam that completely obscured the artists performance technique. If the artists pay close attention to detail, then the organizers have no choice, but to oblige.

Imagine sitting in the back row and not being able to see the artists flourish to detail on the mridangam. Many years ago in Goregoan, Mumbai for a concert by Nednuri Krishnamurthy with Veer Raghavan on violin and Palghat Raghu on Mridangam, Raghu's mridangam was obscured by a monitor on stage. Repeated requests politely by Shri Raghu to move the stage monitor fell on deaf ears. Shri Raghu sat up at the end of the varnam and spoke out loudly to the organizers asking them if the rasikas paid for the concert and did they not have a right to see and enjoy the concert to its fullest.

Did not mean to deviate from the topic. Once the artists hold their end then the organizers will oblige.

Seems like the mic stand was not suitable so they have improvised by putting the mic on a box with some padding.
