But his diction needs improvement. It is always very difficult to understand the second line of any song he sings.

Great concert... Varadarajan was just BRILLIANT
.. The kharaharapriyA he played yesterday was just one of its kind and his accompaniment should serve as a role model for all the violinists of the day. Sanjay executed the pallavi beautifully including trikAlam, thisram, anulOmam and pratilOmam....., it was in Adhi thAlam 4-kaLai. Very happy to listen to 4-kaLai pallavi these days, the last time i heard a 4-kaLai pallavi being sung live was by KVN mama.
Extremely sorry i forgot the mrudangam artist's name yesterday and Alathur Rajaganesh (Kanjira) played very well. Their accompaniment to krithis, playing for the pallavi and the thani was top notch.
Yes, "kAlai thOOkI" was indeed sung beautifully... Maybe the image of Lord Nataraja with his "iDathu padham thUkI" posture above the dias served as an inspiration....

Semmu,
Though the intricacies in the tALam would have been beyond me, I would have loved such a presentation in the pallavi.
Also, what was the viruttam? Was en tAi which followed in rAgam Arabhi? In that case, it could have been an Ambujam Krishna composition: en tAi nI anRO, mInAkshi.
Like the spring cuckoo and you, I am a fan of yadukula khAmbOdi and of that kruti.
Yes, that image of NaTarajan is an inspiring thing (has been, even in my childhood, when I had listened to concerts in that hall). Wonder how the performers can see it, though--unless they are present in the hall as listeners!

1. Kalai Thooki is such a beautiful song (I keep singing it almost every other day) ... The MASTER would have feasted on this song. Check out his rendition of this song in the CDW Kutcheri series of 2008. Tooooo beautiful.
2. I am assuming the song ENN THAI would be the one that he sang at MMU 2010. Enn Thai Vaazhum Mangala Naadham (PatDeep).
3. Semmu86 - Can you please explain (if it is not a hassle) what is 4-kaLai pallavi ?

Srikant, thanks for reminding about Seetha mami. She did sing a 4-kaLai pallavi @ MA couple of days back, in chatusra jhampa. But i guess my statement still holds. I meant, male artists 8)
@sridrect :- "kaLai" generally refers the number of times each beat is counted. For eg, if we take krithis like chakkanIrAjA, we call it 2-kaLai. So 4-kaLai means, counting each beat 4 times, which is quite tricky to execute without getting confused, unlike 1-kaLai and 2-kaLai. This was one such pallavi in 4-kaLai. Hope this helps.
Arasi, sorry am unable to recollect the sAhityam in the virutham

The Viruttam must be (based on what he sang last year) : pArril Uyardha Nilam thanga pacchai Nilam ....
That viruttam sang last year for JAYA TV was a class act - Karaharapriya - Yadukula Kamboji - Sindhu Bhairavi - Mohanam - Patdeep (mind blowing)

His diction is good. If you require such a perfection, then you should listen to ONLY DKJ and DKP. Barring these 2 musicians, it does get difficult to keep a tab on the lyrics of any kriti in any language. So long as the music is sweet just enjoy !!ganeshkant wrote:But his diction needs improvement. It is always very difficult to understand the second line of any song he sings.
