Sri T V Shankaranarayanan @Unnati, Bangalore on 16/02/2013

Vocal: Sri. T V Shankaranarayanan
Violin: Sri. B U Ganesh Prasad
Mridangam: Sri. Arjun Kumar
Ghatam: Sri. Ranganatha Chakravarthy

I was waiting for someone else to post a report since I went to the concert half an hour late. But since no one else has, I'm posting it. If someone else could fill up the initial couple of items, it would be great.

1. Inda paramugam [R N S] - Purvikalyani - Adi - Shankaradas Swami
Neraval and swarams @SilayO, nI oru
2. Rama ni samanamevaru [R N S] - Kharaharapriya - Rupakam - Tyagaraja
Neraval and swarams @paluku paluku
3. Mohana Rama [R S T] - Mohana - Adi (2 kalai) - Tyagaraja
4. Viruttam (kaNNA kArmugil vaNNA) - Hindolam, Hamsanandi, Sindhu Bhairavi, followed by
Venkatachalanilayam - Sindhu Bhairavi - Adi - Purandaradasa
5. Mangalam - Saurastram - Adi - Tyagaraja

It was an amazing concert. Maama sang without any vocal support, and he absolutely didn't need it. Every piece was rendered with so much gusto. The highlights of the day were the lovely neravals, both in Purvikalyani and Kharaharapriya. Mohanam was very good too. I get bored with Mohanam after a few minutes usually, but maama has a knack with the raagam which never makes it boring. He had sung this same piece the last time I'd heard him in the city, but still, it felt fresh and was completely enjoyable.

About the accompanists:
Sri. Ganesh Prasad supported very well. He is a competent accompanist and he complemented maama ably throughout.

I find Sri. Arjun Kumar a bit too exuberant for my liking, but when the other performers can match his energy and work together, it yields something special. This was one such occasion. His playing added to the concert immensely. Sri. Ranganatha Chakravarthy played well on the ghatam as well. The tani was succinct and enjoyable. Both artistes played plenty of the different nadai phrases right up front, and didn't drag it too long. The kuraippu playing was good as well. There were several aavarthanams where the phrases ended exactly at the eduppu of the song, which was a nice touch.

Overall, it was an excellent evening. Completely worth the loooooooong journey to the venue.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't know whose it was. Looked it up on the internet, and that was the info I got. Can't always trust track listings on the internet I guess! :D

It seems that I have missed a good concert. Had another committed concert to attend to :(

Sri.TVS sings another purvikalyani Tamil number, " Ini aagilum ninai manamey ina kula tilaganai Raghavanai"- a masterpiece.

Last time I heard his concert it was the landmark MMI number of Kharaharapriya ,Chakkaniraja- simply superb.

Feeling quite nostalgic. Will not miss his concert the next time around!!
